Super Comanche Single-Shot Pistol
I was considering buying Super Comanche Single-Shot Pistol .45 LC / .410 single shot pistol for this years rabbit season, does anyone here own one of these or have you used one? If so what is your oppinions? I know its not a TC Contender but I hear for a 4th of the price it is a decent gun.
Re: Super Comanche Single-Shot Pistol
I have owned both the comanche and the contender and here is the pros and cons as I see it.
Comanche
Pros
Lighter
Cheaper (under $200)
Cons
Trigger pull was hard on mine
Has regular pistol sights on with a blade in front makes it more difficult to get lined up quickly.
A little "rough" made gun but what you would expect for under $200
Contender
Pros
Nice trigger pull
Can change barrels to other calibers
Has bead sight on front makes it easier to get lined up quickly
I prefered the rear grip over the Comanche
Nice looking well made gun
Cons
Price over $500
Little Heavier
I prefer the Contender over the Comanche, but I killed alot with the Comanche and would say it is a pretty nice gun for the money. If you don't mind spending the money on the Contender I would buy it. I bought mine with the .410 barrel and bought a 7X30 Waters Barrel for mine and plan on deer hunting with it this fall. I also bought a .17 HMR barrel to play around with in the offseason.

Re: Super Comanche Single-Shot Pistol
I never shot the Judge, but I believe that they don't have a choke in them so there range is very limited.
Re: Super Comanche Single-Shot Pistol
I have a Commanche and love it. I carry it in a holster then it gives me both hands to handle dogs, walk through briars, ect. The range is very limited though. I would say under 15 yards. I found that 7.5's shoot better than #6 shot, and heard that the 2 1/2 inch shells pattern better than the three inch. I bought a box of three inch, so that is what I use. I don't kill many rabbits per year, so this is perfect for me. If I wanted to fill the freezer with meat I wouldn't carry it. You are going to miss more than you kill.
I couldn't justify paying the extra money for a .410 pistol. You can't convince me the Contender will pattern any better than the Commanche, unless I seen it with my own eyes.
I did find that the Commanche and the Garmin Astro is a deadly combination. I use the Garmin to tell when the rabbit has turned around and to get an idea where the rabbit is going to come through, and then I climb a tree and sit there and wait for it.

My buddy bought a judge with the short barrel. The problem with it was that it didn't even have a pattern

If you really want a challenge buy a judge. I think hitting them with a sling shot would be easier

Skeeter is right and you'll miss more than you hit but if you're like me that's ok. I like rabbit supper but I won't fill the freezer anytime soon with the Comanche. It does throw a decent pattern out to 20 yards and that's with a 3" #6shot.......at least that's my experience with it. The hands free part is what I love the best about it............and I'm like you, for the price it was the perfect fit.

Re: Super Comanche Single-Shot Pistol
Well guys, I really aint to worried about filling the freezer, besides, I hunt mainly for the benifit and enjoyment of the hounds. I usually have another guy or two with me so if I realy want a rabbit and if they want to hunt with my hounds, well you get the idea, lol! I have killed alot of rabbits and sometimes I have found that it isnt much of a challenge anymore so this is the reason I was considering the Comanche. I figured it would be fun, very challenging and quite unusual to the guys I hunt with, maybe get a chuckle or two out of them. I guess it would be really bad if I still killed more than they do! Going back to what I said about if they want to hunt with my hounds and give me a rabbit, I was just thinking, if I depend on them to kill me a rabbit I might starve to death.

Is that the one with the guy showing the shot patterns at different yardages?? If so it is a good one to watch.

yeah bunnyblaster thats the one, by the way, your quote is perfect and so true!
Re: Super Comanche Single-Shot Pistol
I have the Contender with a 16" 45/410 barrel and 30 yd. isn't out of the question as long as there isn't a lot of stuff in the line of fire.

Re: Super Comanche Single-Shot Pistol
With the comanche or the contender a 30 yard shot is not out of the question. I actually did better if they were out past 20 yards because of the full choke.

Re: Super Comanche Single-Shot Pistol
WOW! I called around to several gun shops yesterday afternoon looking for the comanche and no body has one or can get one anytime soon. Said they have all of the sudden became high demand and there is a big back order on them. That just tells me the price will eventualy go up.
