Pad completely cut off!

Saturday one of our dogs came back to the truck after the hunt and he had stepped on something cutting one of his pads completely off. Any suggestions on what will make it heal up or any special way to doctor it?

What I would do until I could get the dog to the vet is I would get some EMT gel and smear it on to reduce the pain, and get some new skin and put over the pad area, I would get some vet wrap and wrap up the paw to keep infection out, however you are going to have to make sure you don't get it on to tight. It is going to be very important to get circulation to the area, keep it clean and dry. Open wounds heal better with air dry however this is on the dogs foot and is prone to getting into nasty stuff. Keeping out infection is going to be paramount to getting it to heal.

This has to be so painful, this is why I say to take your dog to the vet to get pain meds that will work for this injury. Besides the vet may advise you on better treatment of the area then I have stated, and what I stated is just what I would do until I could get to the vet.
