sportdog tek ve garmin astro

Post by rabbit chaser »

fellas Im starting to do my homework on these two systems and know that alot of you fellas are running garmins but do any of you have any experience with the teks or compared your garmin (220 or 320) in the field to your buddies tek? Im trying to compare "apples to apples" and wont be getting a system with the shock part on it so im just inquiring on the tracking portion. how is the maps on the tek if you do know compared to the garmin? will the tek track how many miles you put on the dogs like the garmin and show there running routes? I see on ebay i can buy a new in the box tek for 350 bucks as compared to over 500 for a garmin. for the price differance i could almost have a second collar for the tek but I haven't heard much about them on any of the boards so Im not sure how reliable it is compared to the garmin. any and all insight good AND bad will be helpful. right now Im still running the beep beep ultra light collars.

If you repost this in "Just Talkin Dawgs" I'm pretty sure you will get some opinions. I know a couple guys that use and love the tek.

I have the Tek and love it. It Does Not have a map feature or a "mile meter". It's very simple. Shows what direction the dogs are and how far away.Shows if they are stationary or moving. What I do , is mark different "way points" along the road , or back in on running spots to give a better idea of where they are in relationship to those spots. You can store up to 20 way points and a start point to find your way back to your truck. Also has a compass. Seldom looses signal , but will on occasion like garmin. Seems compared to others I've ran with , holds signal better most of the time than the garmin.
