Purina Pro Plan Question

Post by JLW »

I switched to Purina Pro Plan dog food over a month ago and my dog continues to look worse and worse. I started by feeding the recommended amount and have since upped the amount to 2 cups a day. Since the switch nothing has not changed I run her just like before (4 to 5 days a week) she it UTD on shots and worming, she stays in a concrete kennel. I will say her energy level is way up, but her body condition is something I don't like. Any guidance would be appreciated.

Doesn't sound like a dog food issue, IMO.

I feed Pro plan and have for some time. Looks have never been an issue...but every case is different as is every dog's response to a food change.

A change in diet for dogs is a longer, much longer, process than us. There body goes thru an adjustment period, my vet says that can be up to a couple months.

I, personally feed, Pro Plan Performance Salmon and rice. Just left the store from buying it. It has shown to be the best I have seen, but I have not tried them all. A lot, but not all.

If this were my dog I would get her vet check...again my opinion.

What Pro Plan do you feed? Running 4-5 days a week I would suggest 28/18 or 30/20. I feed 30/20 and my dogs look great!

JLW I had the same thing happing with one of males. Was UTD on everything I let it go to far before going to the Vet I didn't lose him but he was really poor looking. Had the Vet run blood work and everything he and I could think of thing that could cause this expect dog food. Took him off Pro Plan and less than a week start picking his weight back up. Vet said I was running his metabolism over time. I was doing the same thing as you start feeding him more and more. If I was you I would feed something different for a week or so and see what happens.

If the dog is running hard 4 or 5 times a week 2 cups don't sound like a lot of food to me. I've feed way more than that at times, some dogs just need more fuel. You ever try free feeding? Just let them decide how much to eat, usually works for all but the gluttons.

Several ppl I run trials with were feeding it and talking how they loved. Talked about their energy level and hardly any waste to clean, so I thought I would try it!

Every dog is different...I have had success with it...but that doesn't mean everyone will.

I like to see a couple ribs on my hounds year round...if I cant then regardless of the food they are too heavy for my liking.

Everyone has there opinions on this...
