Re: The price of a hound?
Keep the price issue up and lets see what hounds are worth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would like to hear from guys/girls that have FC's in their kennels and see what they would take for them? and then see how much they have in them?
How about the IFC's out there? How much are they worth?

Re: The price of a hound?
buy the time you buy a pup from a well know kennel.
raise ,feed, take to the vet and train the little bugger.
add up all the money spent in fule, traveling to trials and hunting it.
you have allot of money tied up.
it would take some time to re-coop your money no matter what you charge for there pups.
it's a labor of love. LOL
i myself would not pay 750 for a pup. no matter what it was out of. thats just out of my price range.
there is most likley some out there that i would be just as happy with for less money.
you just have to know what you are looking at or for.
but if thats want someone wants and they have the cash. good for them.
but i am sure they are going into it with the mind set of selling upper price puppys off them.
but if someone walked up and said would you take 750 for that 8 week old pup.
i would say yes sir , would you 2....LOL

Re: The price of a hound?
Well its just my take, I bred 2 FC I was also the breeder of. I sold the pups for 300.00 a piece and thought i was a little steep they seemed to turn out they are 1 year old but if you can pull 750.00 a pup your better than me. At what point does a dog that will kill ya a few rabbits and give ya a few trophies or ribbons become worth in your eyes ? I dunno but whom ever buys these pups i would love to know how they work out for ya.
When the moment of truth arrives, the point of preparation has passed.

Re: The price of a hound?
I paid $175 for an Abshires June pup at 8 month old.She is 3 now.I still have her. I paid $150 for a RIley's Rollings Trails female at 9 months. She is 3.5 now still have her. Both turned out to be good rabbit dogs.Far from outstanding but above average in my eyes. No way in this world would I pay $500 for a pup when I can buy a nice broke dog for that amount.I have no problem with people spending their money any way they like... Mine comes to hard for those prices. I just pack run and gun hunt I do not trial......

I have a Progressive Pack ,HOF GRB CH GR RR CH , she is also UKC CH HBCH , she has also been in three little pack hunts , winning two cast. i turned down $3,500 for her when she was 3 years old. She is 7 now , and I doubt i could come close to that price now. UKC & ARHA registered , not AKC.
Also have a soon to be PP GR RR CH ,( 6 wins in champ class , will certify after first of the year) she is akc, and bred to the hilt , numerous FC''s and HOF dogs in her pedigree. No price on her , but if their were, it would be high.
neither female has ever been bred.

Re: The price of a hound?
I have a 2 year old Reggie male that I was offered $1,000 for last Thanksgiving and turned it down and now he has 3 wins toward ARHA LP GRCH and was offered $1,800 for him last week and I am not saying he is worth it but he is mine and I love him and won't sell him. My wife says I am crazy but that is just me.

Chuck, your reggie male "undertaker" is one hell of a hound and I cant wait to see him go in the AKC Mid-West. From everything that I have heard from other people talking he is the best reggie male out there.

Re: The price of a hound?
thanks for all the replys but I would still like to see what some of the FC's or IFC's have sold for or would be sold for?
What is reggie worth?
What is Junie worth?
What is Blue Max worth?
How about Heli-prop?
Jack of All Trades?
Blue Ninja?
Striker?
Shaker?
Dingus?
How about the great crosses that have been made?
In the beagle world we have put a very low price on our pups for a long time now! Look what other AKC pups "non-bealges" go for without any type of history of championship pedigrees.

Re: The price of a hound?
I bought a double fc female pup for 350 and i figure that its pretty much a gamble but have seen both parents run and i like em. Hopefully she is as good as either but will see in time. Olso have bought a pup for400 that is just a grandson to 2 fcs but can smoke a rabbit . so i agree it is what I or we will pay for a quallity bred dog .

Re: The price of a hound?
I think a price of a hound depends on what circle of people you run with. Different registries has their own people that will not cross over regardless of how good the dog is. Over population of beagles brings the price down. The economy plays a role in dog prices. In rabbit season beagles go up in price.

Re: The price of a hound?
How much would you pay for Dingus mCCrae as a pup, or Heli-prop? Those dogs went on to do great things.
I know there are no guarantees in pups, but I would rather pay $750 for a line I wanted with a promising future than $250 for a pup that doesn't even start to fit into a kennel program. $750 is a heck of a gamble, but if it an educated gamble, it may pay off. I got $150 each out of my last pups. Sold 2 today. The last cross is a little over a year old and is proven. I'm not in it for money. I paid $200 for the gyp and gave up a pup for the stud. The litter costs about $200 to raise up to 8 weeks for wormer, shots, tattos, albon, feed, registration, etc. If I had $1000 in a gyp, I would want to recoup that I guess.
If I had a SUPER great dog and a SUPER great stud that have proven they produce SUPER dogs, I would charge what ever I wanted for the pups. If you don't want to take a chance, then keep on buying the $150 pups like I sell that ain't worth having.

Re: The price of a hound?
I would pay $400 for a pup if I wanted the breeding. As far as running dogs, If your talking about buying a dog that has been started, soloed a bunch, hunted over, taught to handle and behave in the kennel as well as not run trash and can do it on it's own then yes it's worth a pretty penny. Usually the person who cares enough to train a dog like that and then sells it even at $750 and up is taking a loss because the amount of time put into a dog like that he will never re-coup. Most people want to spend $250 on a dog. A dog that has been thrown in a pack and run that way since started and never taught to handle, mind in a kennel and can't solo on it's own you could not give me for free yet some people will pay $250 for that dog and then scoff at someone paying $750. You have to compare apples to apples when talking price in my opinion. I would pay four digits for a AKC finished dog that I like, heck it cost the owner probably two grand to finish that dog.....Just my opinion.

Re: The price of a hound?
Thanks for the comments Duane. I don't know about him being the best Reggie male out there but I like him and he has a home. I want to try to grand him in LP before I run him in AKC Mid-West if possible.old blood beagles wrote:Chuck, your reggie male "undertaker" is one hell of a hound and I cant wait to see him go in the AKC Mid-West.
