I feed Victor dog food. It has Nupro added into feed itself plus many other vitamins and supplements. 40 lb bag around $30. Some guys gripe bout the price being a lil higher, but they'll spend $25 on a 50lb bag, then buy a $100 worth supplements to add to there feed.BCBeagles wrote:Nupro, best I have found, great for hard running(recovery time is minimal), great for pups, great for expecting females, great for older hounds as well.....just good all around product.
Really can't see going away from it anytime in the future.

I feed Purina Pro Plan Performance. I am able to so I do. 30/20. year round.
Nupro is just something that works for mine....they can run anytime I like for any amount of time I like.
There is more to it than just the food and supplements...... I really watch how much my dogs are fed, over feeding is one of the biggest issues for running in the summer. Keep them lean and fit and they won't struggle.
I have a 9 month old that has seen 20 hours of running this past week. I know I could not do that with her overweight and I am confident her recovery time is better with the supplements used as they should be.
To each his own....opinions can be rejected as well as accepted.
Take care and good running!

I feed Victor the red bag and also use Nupro Gold too but I pay $38 a 40 lb bag for my Victor and the place that I get it from give me a $2.00 discount and sometime I give them raw also as a treat. I did at one time feed the Victor 30/20 to my hound but I guest I got a little Gun Shy when some talk about it could damage the liver with that much protein in your hounds diet. But I Would luv to get a couple of Deer this hunting season and feed me and them too. I'll will feed what I can Afford to my hounds while I can and if I couldn't Afford it I guest they would have to eat a little cheaper feed. jmo

Has anyone tried the Thompson's Bitch Pills or Breed Heat for their females?
Was thinking of giving it to my older female. Supposed to help regulate cycles, help with fertility issues, and help with birthing as well.
Also has anyone tried the OxyMate or OxyMomma?
Thanks

Re: anyone use dog supplyments
BC Beagles, I totally agree with you on the amount of feed your feeding. That plays a great role in the balance of keeping them healthy. Some of mine take 2 cups of feed while I have some that just get a cup.
My previous post I should have I stated some guys spend 25$ on feed and 100$ on supplements. That reflects onto some guys that I know who they think they are making a super antidote, when I just mainly feed a dry feed. All hounds run and perform bout the same, but I still aggravate them tell them they are going give them a overdose one day. Lol!
I myself occasionly give some oils on my dogs feed, ( around breeding, heat cycles, pups,).
I've read once before that a human could survive off if bee pollen and water. Bee pollen has ton of protein in it. They say it is very good after a hard work out, but only few times a week. I agnologized the Nupro because it was in the feed I'm feeding.

I understand your point..
You are right, low quality food with a supplement doesn't add much when you are starting with less, quality components in the food that is.
I buy Cod Liver oil in Gallons off line, I believe Valley Vet, it is a great addition for nursing females, to pups food, and to young and old hounds for extra nutrients during hard running times. I also give it regularly to pregnant females. Adds a lot of Vit. D naturally as well and adds to there coats and energy levels.
Another quality ingredient to keep them healthy. I take my hounds very, very serious and there care is of utmost importance. I expect A LOT out of them, I feel I should prepare them to be able to perform like I expect.......you can't feed them desire so that part has to be bred in....lol.

How much of the nupro do you guys give each dog? I use to use dog bloom and it was 1/2 tsp per feeding.

Re: anyone use dog supplyments
Depends on dog size and weight. It is a max of a scoop which would probably equal about 3-4 table spoons. I usually just feed half a scoop per dog in 2-3 days per week of running. I up it to about 2/3 scoop when I am running them back to back days or training regimens of multiple runs per week different durations of run time.
It is good stuff...I have used it for several years now....I think it makes a difference.
