Reckon any of those packs would sound something like this here?

Ron, I forgot about Tyke,; he was definitely one of the best little males I've judged. I think my packs of ten would be smoother than you might think. After all, that's how they became FC's in the Mid-West; by running the line pretty much fault free and handling the pressure of the pack and staying in the check area. Yes, they would be fast and might overrun a little until they settled down, but that's what we breed for, run to catch. If I wanted a cozy little pack that didn't care if they ever got close to Mr. Bunny as long as they stayed out of each others way, I'd run UBGF or something.

greg you are right, i'm not saying they are bad dogs i just don't think they would gel together, up here on the snow you got to gear down or you won' have a race, it's all right for you guys down south you don't get snow or cold temps like we do, we don't run more than 3 or 4 dogs at a time then you are lucky to burn one up unless you have chapys dogs then you don't need a gun. mike dick cordell in ak owns him and he is throwing some really nice pups, he just don't offer him to the public to much.

Most of you guys have probably never heard of these hounds, they weren't campaigned at the trials much and didn't have a lot of exposure to anyone but the guys hunting them. They could however, really do a nice job when ran together in a pack. They could gear up or down as conditions dictated and complimented each other well especially after a couple hours of being down together and the edge was gone. They could perform equally well on cottontail or hare.

These hounds were all closely related and were packed together several times. They had good individual ability as well and many of them were braced or ran in smaller packs together a lot. Although I am starting to incorporate some new blood in my kennel, these hounds and their offspring are what kept me on the patch hounds for over 18 yrs.

If I didn't think these hounds could adjust to tough conditions , they would not be in my top ten; I have judged or seen them all run and they can do it all; slow down or speed up. I don't judge a dog merely on speed, but thier rabbit running ability.

I like and agree with Riverbottom's philosophy. My own pack of dogs ALWAYS runs better together than most mixed packs i've ever seen.
