When I raise a litter I typically only use a FC stud and the female is bred very well and a good dog. If I have any extra pups left after keeping mine and giving my buddies some, you can buy a pup from me for $150-$200, usually $150. I do not own beagles and trial to make money. My recommondation to anyone is to skip paying more than $300 for an unstarted puppy because there is no guarantee on any pup. I've seen accidental breedings produce good hounds, 2 IFC's produce junk, and everything in between. Hell, I've seen a litter that almost finished out every pup made again with the opposite results. When money becomes the reason for owning beagles then it's going downhill in a hurry. This is not to say that those folks who have a FC should not get a fair return, they should, but anyone who would pay $750 for a 6 week old puppy or a stud fee is just plain ignorant in my humble opinion, and they are damaging the sport. No I'm not sorry if I offended someone either. I just wonder if those people that are asking and paying that kind of money ever bitch about the price of gas, cars, homes, and common goods. Would be kind of funny if they did.

As far as running dogs, If your talking about buying a dog that has been started, soloed a bunch, hunted over, taught to handle and behave in the kennel as well as not run trash and can do it on it's own then yes it's worth a pretty penny. Usually the person who cares enough to train a dog like that and then sells it even at $750 and up is taking a loss because the amount of time put into a dog like that he will never re-coup. Most people want to spend $250 on a dog. A dog that has been thrown in a pack and run that way since started and never taught to handle, mind in a kennel and can't solo on it's own you could not give me for free yet some people will pay $250 for that dog and then scoff at someone paying $750. You have to compare apples to apples when talking price in my opinion. I would pay four digits for a AKC finished dog that I like, heck it cost the owner probably two grand to finish that dog.....Just my opinion.

I don't know the price difference in AKC vs UKC dogs but I turned down 500.00 for my ukc female when she was 7 months old, 800.00 after her first win and 1200.00 last week now that she is HBCH.... Not sure I would sell her for any amount but I'm sure if someone offered something stupid high for her I might.

As for what I feel she is "worth" I would pay 600 for a dog just like her but feel any more than that and I could buy 2 good pups and probably get the same results with one of them and still be at the same price.

A beagle just ain't worth very much to me with so many good dogs and breeders out there....
God isn't real, Beer is good and people are crazy, there I fixed it.
