These two little ones are friends of mine from Church, and for the last two Sundays they asked me to take them rabbit hunting with the dogs. They are my friend Kevin's little ones- Jada & Ashton. We went for about 4 hours yesterday afternoon, Things started slow, but when the first one got up the dogs pounded the trail for 2 hours, and we could not get the kids a shot for nothing. Finally it was getting late, so I cut one down so we didn't go home empty handed. Jada always calls me her Uncle Gregg, which warms my heart- of course. My youngest son was worn out from a wrestling tournament, and my 16 yr old just had his wisdom teeth removed, so they were both out of commision, so I had to borrow some kids.
When I got home, I was reminded that the little pair of Walls coveralls that Ashton is wearing is 20 years old now. My ugly twin brother-Garry- and I purchased them for his oldest son-Calvin- now 22 years old and fighting in Afganistan. Who passed them on to my oldest-Nick then my youngest Tanner, then Garry's youngest Chad, and now little Ashton.
WOW they grow up too quick

Great photos of kids having a good time afield.
"Uncle Gregg" - I love it!

Well over a half century ago when I was a pup, it was customary for children and adults to call much loved and revered older neighbors, distant relatives and family friends "uncle and aunt". I ran into an old fella at the family cemetery on Decoration Day a few years ago who called my Great Grandpa "Uncle John" during our converstion. Brought tears to my eyes because I knew I had just encountered someone who, as a boy, knew and loved Great Grandpa many years ago. Sure would be nice to see the respect given elders long ago come back. Good for Jada and for you...... looks like you can consider yourself "much loved and revered".

It's good when people take kids hunting. That is the only way our hunting heritage will be passed down.Looks like those kids had a ball.

You are to be commended for your part in not only keeping the sport alive, but bringing some "good life" to some children - our future. They say you cannot have even a 5-minute encounter with a stranger without changing his/her life, or making a mark in some fashion. Think what you have done for these kids....and us. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks for the encouraging words guys, If a youngster wants to go I'm gonna take em. I had a ball, Jada just wasn't tall enough to see one rabbit that stopped right in front her or she would have got her first Wabbit. I think we are just gonna have to try try again
