I know this has been brought up before, but i would like some updated opinions. There are three questions to this post

#1- If you were looking to add HUNT to your kennel, which stud would you go to? (Stud throwing Best Hunt)? Speed not really an issue!

#2- What is the hardest hunting dog you have ever seen?

#3- What is the hardest hunting dog you have seen that is being trialed right now?

I think hunt is equally important in both but especially the bitch.
The old masters used to say, use a masculine dog hound of substance and quality to keep up the constitution of your pups, and bitches of only the best hunting ability. They seemed to believe the bitch transmitted the greater of the unseen qualities and the stallion contributed more to structure, stamina and substance of the offspring.
With the number of hounds out there today, there's really no reason to breed a bitch failing in hunt. jmho
Most average hounds will start to fall out after the 3rd days hunt, make your pick from those still standing at the end of the week and you won't go far wrong, many will still run if the rabbit is jumped for them but look to those who go hunting when their brothers are still standing in the two-tracks showing their lack of desire...

The dogs that I listed are dogs that I have actually witnessed . They don't just stay busy they will hit the briars. Rocket has probably the most intense hunt of the dogs I listed.

#2 answer, a Blue banks kennel 15" male, he had Taylor's Sock it to me in him, Camp Creek Gertrude and Primma donna and maybe Moon Pie also, he hunts head down, non-stop all day. Never seems to tire. He is around 9 years old now.

i have a 13in. female out of sunset scooter & wolf creek betty that has as much hunt in her as anything ive seen upper medium speed.

I totally agree, a bitch shouldn't be bred unless she hunts well. The females that I am breeding all have good hunt. I am just looking to double up on intense hunt to try and be certain the pups will have hunt! It seems to me that many people are breeding for other qualities such as speed and some of today's dogs are losing hunt. (just my opinion) I enjoyed reading your post about the old masters though. I always like to hear what the old timers have to say.

I run a medium fast speed dog. I would say I like about 6-7 on speed with good control and EXCELLENT hunt.

Nor'Easter, i have a female with two crosses of Blue Banks Pleaser. She is the hardest hunting dog in my kennel. Is this possibly the male you are describing?

I see where Nor Easter said that the dog he is talking about is now 9 yrs old. This is not Pleaser, but i would like to know the name of the male if anyone can help

He is 8-9 years old, has a better nose than most or all the hounds I've seen and more hunt and stamina that the rest too. I haven't seen his ped. in years, so I'll ask my hunting buddy, he owns him and we have hunted him for the last two years now that he handles OK. My brother bought him and it's littermate sister back then@ 8 years ago, she was just as good, was lost 3 days and givin to the person who found her. My brother ruined them as pups. He would let them run day and night as they would between 4-7 months old, no quit in them, and by not being in the woods with them they got to hunt on thier own and not handle. The male does now though.

I went on world pedigrees and seen that the dog I talk about has, Dingus, East Coast Trimmer, Anna's Ann etc. in his blood, no wonder he's a machine!

I maybe look at 1500 dogs a year and the hardest hunting dog is right behind my house.If that rabbit want move she will catch him in the bed.That rabbit better move.She is and outstanded dog.She 9 years old now and never run nothing but a rabbit,She got 3 other sister that is nearbout just as good.I ve had dog now for 36 years now, and you can take these dogs hunting.They will not hunt no futher than 25 yr from me and its just a pleasure to see them bed jump the rabbit and run him too.These dogs will most likly be the best pack of dog i will ever have.The only thing I can say is thank you Lord.The stud dog was not and outstanded dog but would not run deer so I though I would try it.One of the best move I ve done in rabbit hunting.Luck I do beleive.So if it a hard hunting dog or anything eles you have got to have a little luck too.

1500 dogs a year, are you a trial judge ?

No I have 7 rabbits pen and never close and I do 20 trials a year.I ll maybe see as high as 15 different packs a day.I do see alot of dogs maybe more than 1500.

I have a 15" male that has more hunt and drive than most. He goes back to FC Birch Lake Texas T. FC Doms Dougie, IFC Ables Eastcost Trimmer. He is now 10 years but still runs like he's 5 or 6. His name is Bordercreeks Mr Truman. He has sired 3 litters for me so far with great succes
