Red I hope I'm wrong, but it does sound like kidney problem. I would stop running him until he is better. I have lost many dogs to kidney problems. They stop running, stop eating, and then they are a dead dog. I think most of mine was from hard running without water. When I see my dogs with their tongues dragging the ground now, I try to get them to water.
I know you like to have a lot of jewelry on your dogs, shock collar, tracking collar. GPS collar, Direct TV receiver, SIRIUS radio recever, and a dog collar. Try taking a few things off and see if it helps. J/K Red..... I hope he gets over it. You may have to go get the Pink Dog to help your pack... lol

Hey Rick
I definetly would have the vet. do some bloodwork to check out his kidney function.I've lost two good females over the years to renal failure[kidneys quit] and that's how mine went down. The last one, I was running hare in Maine and she started out burning them up and by the end of the week was dragging and couldn't keep up but still tried to go.Drinking water like there was no tomorrow and not wanting to eat.Started losing weight and within 3 weeks she was gone.
Try smelling your dog's breath to see if it smells sweet. I believe this is called ketosis [sp.]. When their kidneys are failing they often will have this symptom.
Hope your dog will be okay.

The water consumption is also a sign of a thyroid condition. Other symptoms are lethargy, overwieght and dull coat or other skin conditions.A 50.00$test and a 15.00$ prescription every 250 days turned my problem dog around. Just to bad I did'nt get it figured out sooner. By the way, the vet darn near missed the thyroid and was blaming the kidneys and still is claiming pre renal failure for three years now.The thyroid can make it look like a lot of other things are wrong.I would get as complete a blood and urine test as you can and go from there. If you don't you may be going back time after time untill you figure it out. Good luck
