Close call with coyote

Post by kbspeed »

Was soloing one of my dogs this morning and she had finally got a good run going. Dog brings the rabbit across a dirt road and is really doing well, I moved to the road to see if I could see the rabbit and watch for cars if the dog was to come across the road. 70 yards down the road a coyote comes out and stands there for about 15 seconds, I am assuming trying to get a bearing on my dog, and takes off into the brush in the direction of my dog. I take off trying to intercept my dog and the coyote, as ticked :angryfire: off as I was I think I could have run that bastard down. I am sure that the coyote took off at the sound of me screaming my dogs name. Now that coyote season is open in Michigan a sidearm will be going with me and the dogs.

Staying close to the dogs is the key. I've lost two dogs to coyotes and both times the dogs were like 300 yards away and running a rabbit.

Had a similar experience this mourning. Had two dogs behind the house. A yote shows up and is circling the dog with a bell. He just looked at me and keep coming. Got within 100 yds of me in an open field with me calling the dogs before he moved on. Dang, had the wrong gun with me.
