The trick is, to breed in what your lacking without sacrificing the balance of the whole.
We've all seen hounds who's excessive nature leads them to potter, hang-up in the checks or over-drive the end.
It's not whats easiest to breed in, it's doing it in a way that maintains the balance and improves upon what you got...imho ;)

I’ll elaborate on my earlier post, it’s easier to breed in speed/drive because of the nature of the trait and a breeders ability to easily recognize it in the offspring. We can see speed/drive and without question know if the offspring has received the traits of the sire or dam.

Take for example a medium speed male and a fast female. All other things being equal other than speed/drive between the two hounds being breed. So our goal from the breeding was to keep and/or get the speed of the female. As we evaluate the litter we can easily start culling the slower pups running in the back of the puppy pack. Then keeping the faster pups for future breeding's. Within only a few generations we have set the trait dominate.

It’s not the hounds or the trait that makes it easier to breed. It’s the breeders ability to isolate and control it within his breeding program. The breeder can simply pick out speed easier and thus it's easier to breed for.

If I've got a fast bitch "an all things being equal", why did I breed her to a medium speed hound only in hopes of keeping fast pups? Looks like you were wanting to slow them down by breeding to the medium speed hound and are keeping the wrong pups... :???: (j/k)

it would appear that he's walking toward the camera. There's not enough detail in it to tell for certain, but looking at the planted foot, it would appear that it's pointing toward the camera.

Am I right? that's gonna bug me for a while!

bfoster, good picture. The old man is walking away from standard ideas.( the Light) His step though he is old is sure and he doesn't need a beacon to light his way. He can see his path perfectly. 98% of us can only see the light behind him, only 2% of us can see the light in front of him!
