R.I.P Mac’s Screamin Red Oscar

I always dreaded having to post this: Oscar hasn’t eaten well in a couple days and hasn’t been acting like himself. I went out to feed dogs last night and he was having a seizure that was going on for some time. I took him to the vet and they said given his age and the severity of the seizure he was experiencing there was most likely some damage done, so I had him put to sleep. He was 10-1/2 years old. He was a dual Grand Little Pack Champion but his field trialing accomplishments were far overshadowed by how wonderful of a dog he was to own. He and I were buddies and I am left with some amazing memories spent with him that I will have forever. I bought Oscar when he was 4 weeks old and his retirement from field trialing seemed to mark the end of my trialing as well. There was a time in my life when I lived for the weekend so I could load Oscar up and go to the nearest trial (not always very near). He and I traveled thousands of miles together, especially in 2006 when he finished #2 in the hound of the year standings, and I wouldn’t take back one mile. Those of you that know me know how much I loved Oscar and how much he loved me. Oscar went peacefully; reaching up to give me one last kiss on the nose and he passed with his tail wagging. Rest in peace little buddy, you will be greatly missed!!
