Why is it that the same folks always have pups & dogs forsale ? Everytime I look seems the same 5 or 6 guys always R trying to sale something , generally just pups . R they just breeding to have pups to sale or do they breed that many bitch's & try to sale part of the litter ?

I personally have 1 litter a tr for my own use and sell what I do not want usually males because I only keep females.There are people in this sport that will offer to buy pup(s) thart you have left at a reduced price to take them off your hands. They then will turn around and sell them to others and make up stories about them they have a large clientel base that they can usually find a home for them and make a quick buck.Then we have those that breed alot of females for the pupose of making a buck that way . The vast majority of us that breed for our own use will most times keep or give/sell to firends.

I have met guys that just enjoy selling/trading dogs. Sort of hobby in its own way. The key to getting anything of value from them is being able to quickly spot a faulty dog before you buy. Most of these sellers don't know what they have and just repeat the sales pitch that works.

The only thing that ever bothers me about a dog jockey is the ones that don't provide a clean and healthy living environment for the hounds. Beyond that I believe in a free market capitalist society.

We callem "dog jockeys". I've got good deals from them and I've got crooked. Part of the game and I enjoy them.

i myself usually breeds each of my females to sell pups i have what i concider good quality females and anyone is welcome to run with them it is not cheap to raise pups or dogs if u do it right so i try to sell pups to help offset the cost of raising dogs i have never to the best of my knowledge lied to anyone it is a great way to meet new people

I think people raise to many pups a old man told me one time the only time I should ever breed any dog in my pack is to better my pack I dont agree on breeding to paper and thats what these guys do if we would stop buying from them and just make. Crosses as we need them I think we would see better hounds for we wohld not be breeding for something that looks good on paper but for hounds that put meet on the table

If I should try to sell a pup 2 to 6 months or a started young dog, I would lose a great deal of money. So I just swallow the loss and give them to local friends and/or to people who want to try patch hounds. I have had at least 20 people to call me in the last two months, wanting started or finished hounds, they are not for sale and unless I change my 74 yr. old mind I will not have any dogs for sale. LR if you needed something I have then it would be yours really easy. I just don't see any money to be made selling hounds, even a friend of mine who used to make his living with hounds has stopped trading and selling because there is no money in it. I usually raise two litters per year to keep my self in young hounds coming on, usually train 4 and keep 2, and give the rest away.

In our community there are several men that don't hunt but take dogs in that don't fit a honest persons pack.
They have 20-or more dogs at any time of all sizes, speeds, bloodlines etc.
When you go to their place and tell them what you are looking for they usually have several you can try.
They mark them up a bit from what they paid for them. Lots of folks do not like selling a dog because of the buyers being too hard to please so they will take less and sell it to the dog jockey and walk away done with it.
He usually has pretty good dogs, some outstanding in one persons pack or trial format, but didn't fit the ones pack or trial format that sold it to him, but also some that were brought to him by a stranger that are only dog pound quality.
I know old men that help their retirement income this way. Trade days are very popular.
This is a common practice in other areas too, boats, trailers, trucks, cars, guns, horses, goats and even rabbits and chickens all traded because someone is looking for something different from what they have that will suit them better.

I think a good part of it is some guys are looking for a world beater but aren't prepared to put the time and energy into developing a top shelf hunting dog. They'll go through dozens of next best dogs looking to get that perfect dog that is going to win every trial and soon realize their latest pup isn't going to do it so they sell it and jump on another. I also feel there is a reason you see many of the same names in the winner's pack all the time, it's not just the breeding....there is training both physical conditioning and experience involved and those guys are just good at it.
