I was lucky enough to snap pictures of this hare bolting it down our beaten trail trying to shake half a dozen hounds determined to keep on with him in 10" of fresh snow! He was barely touching the snow! a couple of pics of dogs at the check where he went cross country again.

We often criticize dogs for not keeping on the scent. Let me tell you that this hare was not touching the snow for long! He was literally flying in the air.

That explains a lot. I cut a set of tracks once that I measured at over 12 feet from one to the other. I don't know what scared it, but it was movin'. We had the best running in a long time yesterday. Crusted snow and 30-plus degrees. Dogs lost it in a brush pile, but at least it ran. We ran a Christmas tree farm last week and never cut a single track.
