Beagling Bucket List.
What would you like to get done beagling wise before it's all said and done??
Mine would go to New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Connecticut for a few IBGA trials, then get after some white rabbits!!!

Casey I would love to go to Maine one day and run the White Rabbits myself. I have a cousin I have not seen in years that lives in Maine so I may have to give him a buzz and make a trip.

Re: Beagling Bucket List.
I'd like to go to Branko's and spend several days running dogs with him.I met Branko and Freida in 2003 at the Large Pack Nationals in New Hampshire and had a good visit with them. They told me at that time to come on up and run that I'd be welcome.
Well, you know how it is.....Time,money and Manitoba,Canada is a LONG way from Tennessee.
Had several friends that went to Branko's back in 1999 and stayed for a week.Branko hunted them everyday and there is no limit on how many hare can be shot and there is no closed season on them.Branko ran all his Champion dogs for them to see and they had a ball and said the Krpan's fed and treated them super.

Casey, I would love to put some my hounds on the big white hare myself. But the biggest thing I would like to accomplish is producing quality dogs that better the breed for years to come. That to me would be a beagler's greatest accomplishment!

Right on B.C.
I lived in New Hampshire for 21 years before moving south in 1995.I'm extremely fortunate that I have three very close and longtime hunting buddies to hunt with when I go north. One owns a hunting camp on a lake in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom, another lives in N.H. and we often go up along the Canadian border around the Conneticut Lakes Region and another and his wife live about 2 hours north of Bangor,Maine in Arroostock County.
I hunt cottontails 90% of the time and have plenty of game around here and can even run them right here in my yard but I LIVE to go north and put down on the hare!!The north country has so much more huntable land and the hare run big and hard with the dogs pounding for hours.
One thing I must admit to---------I'm a wimp when it comes to winter weather.I go north to hare hunt in October-------as those same places offer up some very harsh and hard weather come Dec.--- March.
Heading to Maine,N.H. and Vermont to hunt in just about 8 weeks.Yahoo!!!!!!!

Got to do that two years in a row. If I don't get to run hares up north, I guess I will be okay since I can go down south and run those tricky swampers...

Re: Beagling Bucket List.
I live in Central NY. I have not seen a cottontail rabbit around my house in over 10 years. I have decent hare running here within walking distance from my house but nothing compares to Maine. I've hunted Island Pond VT, Pittsburg NH but the areas around Moosehead Lake are second to none. Loads of rabbits and endless public land. I would recommend ANYONE who owns a rabbit dog to make the trip. You will never regret it, If your unsure where to go find a good outfitter and pay to stay a week with them. I am lucky enough to own 122acres in far eastern Maine, the "downeast" region. There are a lot of rabbits there, but its easier to access the central region. More and better accommodations for the traveler. October is the best time to go, you could be stuck with real nasty weather after the big game seasons and it could ruin your trip. Not to mention the traveling in it. As far as my bucket list...I had offers to go to Louisiana years ago by Joe Truxillo, Louis Jordan, Jerome Marcel etc...I never went and regret it. Also had offers to go to "the rock", Newfoundland, with Johnny Monkman and never made it. Now we lost Johnny and will never have the chance to run with him up there. I would like to go south. I lived in TN for a year in school, pre-rabbit dog days, and no doubt remember some decent "rabbit patches" that looked good. Running cottontails doesn't really do much for me, but doing it in different places with good company would be a blast. PS anyone who would like to contact a good outfitter in ME feel free to PM me. There are some great outfits up there that will treat you right at a good price. I'm sure Dana knows a few as well.
