I have a question about haunted hill shaker pups and that is, what are some of the most predominating traits carried in all of his offspring? Id like to hear the good and the bad alike. I know that mostly all will be different because of the length in the generations or different bitches that were bred to shaker dogs but does any of the pups carry bad and good traits in pretty much all that are alike in some ways? Like what are some traits of his pups that would be grandchildren? Talking about hunt, nose, mouths, speed, line control ect.

I will be honest in what I have seen good and bad....I assure you I would do the same for any hound that I have had the fortune to own.
I have seen a few(4-6) young hounds and older hounds(mostly males) with very close lineage(direct sons, grandson's, or great grandson's to Shaker), I have only seen 3-5 different females with the same connections. So roughly 10 hounds with close links I have witnessed personally.
The good: very good hunt, very nice build, strong mouths, medium to upper medium foot, average line control(when directly from Shaker or Grandpups), nose above average.
Overall a very nice gundog and with lots of solo time should have been a nice trial dog....all in all.
The negative: Wider in the check than I like(ranged from 20 yards to 80 yards in the point of loss immediately), too tight with there mouth(they drifted tracks and did not open as much as I thought they should have.). Some were very large, I prefer a medium size dog.
These are simply from the ones I witnessed. I have a great grandpup to shaker and have his lineage(Shaker) distantly in some other dogs. I think overall they are a nice line of hounds who account for a nice hunting or trial dog when handled properly.
The more line bred they were, of the ones I saw, the more the mouth was tight....some like this...I just felt some drifted too much with a track that was running.
I would have more of them in my hounds for there hunt alone....excellent hunt and very good conformation. I have also heard several with excellent mouths and I like that as well.
Just my two cents....good running to all!

I have been in the field with quite a few Shaker bred hounds I havent witnessed drifting out on a track. I have witnessed driving a track out on other hounds left standing a few times .Most had good line control and powerful runners above average nose.

Probably could get some pretty good feedback if you ask these questions on beagles canada, alot of northern beaglers had more first hand knowledge with Shaker. What I've been told about Shaker is he was an excellent jump dog,and excellent check dog with great stamina/endurance,was told he finished as a fox trial champion as well due to his great stamina, got stronger as the day got longer. Shaker crossed well when he was linebred to Haunted Hill Halo,H H Slider,H H Artemis, producing several FC's from those crosses,he also crossed very well to Ninja bitches Squirrel Creek Angie & S C Cinder. Shaker has been a big influence on the beagle sport - Awful Bawlin,ThreeJays Jacks. I have owned and seen quite a few Shaker bred dogs run,and what I've seen is good hunt, good check dogs, upper medium to fast foot aggressive track dogs, above average nose, good line control, and dogs with great stamina/endurance,big loud mouths that are used correctly. I have also seen some bad ones, there are culls in every line,I have seen some with bad conformation, bad bites bad legs, but for the most part they have good conformation. Hope this helps

I only owned one by Shaker, BJ's Fudd. He was really hard to fault; good nose, brains & desire along with good looks & conformation. Back in the day, in the circle of people I talked to anyway, Shaker was known for throwing some pups with poor conformation & trash runners. Today, Shaker seems to have the reputation of an outstanding producer & you'll see his name in the pedigree of some great hounds.

I have several Shaker bred hounds. I've not seen any drifting either, just driving the bunny!
I have one female that was outcrossed to a direct Branko's AliBaba male and this is one tough little female!
I have some young dogs that have 4 crosses of Shaker and 2 crosses of Striker in them. Of these there is one female that I plan on crossing to Wireman's Major if everything works out. He is a grandpup to Striker and a great grandpup to Jiggs and ALL RABBIT DOG! Striker and Shaker crosses are proven without a doubt! Throw in some Blue Ninja and it just gets better. The AliBaba , Ninja, Striker, and Shaker lines are all that is in my kennel and all that I'll ever have until I see something better. These lines have all the hunt and desire you can ask for, plenty of speed, great control, and the brains to put it all together. These dogs handle great and are easy going in the kennel. But that's just my opinion and you know what they say about opinions!

i just sold a male that was two generations back from shaker and red river runner. three year old male i got the hound in April and sold him in November. ran him all summer long and never saw any improvements in him as a three year old he ran other dogs would open like he was looking at a rabbit right off the lead and just loved a good deer race. i was in hope with a shock collar and running him with better hounds i could break him and wasn't having any luck and decided to let him go. i wouldn't say the blood line had anything to do with it but that was my experience with it. i will say he was a good looking rascal and had a great bawl mouth. i sure was hoping for the best. i hope you have better luck and i had a lemon

Guys, you have to take into consideration other factors in a dog than just bloodlines. I believe if you hunt with faulty dogs enough your dogs will learn the same habits. After all we are dealing with pack style dogs. I try to watch what type of dogs mine are hunted with to avoid these problems. Unless you only have one dog and hunt him by himself his whole life, you can't control the pack instinct and the things they learn from a pack. My hounds are not perfect by no means, but they suit me and since I buy the feed and meds thats all they need to do. As an old man once said to me "To each his own!"

Shaker was born March 2nd 1993, 21 years later his name shows up in the pedigrees of many FC's today..
Inbred, linebred,or outcrossed Shaker has crossed very well to alot of different stuff, producing many FC's..
Athletic hounds that can get it done anywhere.

Chris83, that is not typical. Actually Shaker produced a lot of open marked hounds. Elliot Peters now owns IFC Clyde Of Moonhaven. He has Shaker in his 2nd & 3rd generations. Ask some of the folks that seen Clyde run what they thought of him. Monk spoke highly of him, which was a big influence in me deciding to purchase him. His oldest pups are just starting and getting very good reviews. I know that even as a 12 yr old, that rascal has more grit and desire than 3 dogs. I wish all of my dogs had his drive.
