Curious as to peoples opinions on how to get a dog to have more staminia when the thermometer rises.

Condition them for it. You cant just drop them in the 90 degree heat and expect them to perform if there not use to it. I run year around and heat isnt usually an issue. They suck hot or cold temp dont really change it lol.

Plenty of water and cool down time. Its about 75 here durning the day. I'm running just about everyday. 3-4 hours a day. Usually from 6am-10am but sometimes run on a cool evening.
Use common sense. I no my dogs very well. I can tell when they've had enough.

Go early and when you start sweating it's about time to start thinking about the dogs. As long as there is plenty of moisture and the dogs can stay cool I keep hunting them. Ran today from 7-11. At 11am was almost 80deg. But like said above running all year they get used to it. Take plenty of water. I have a 2gallon bucket in each side of the dog box.

Im trying to get my dog so he can make it through the winners pack at 1 or2 in the afternoon on a 75 degree day. When its cold out its nothing for this dog to go 15-20 miles a day on hare, he just seems to overheat quick in the hot weather.

I have seen some heavy coated dogs that just do not handle the heat well. Are you allowed to clip the dogs coat?

I have not heard of any akc rule that prohibits clipping their hair, i have actually considered this. I dont know if anyone has ever tried that before or not. I have never heard of anyone doing it.

During the winter hounds put on an under coat of hair to stay warm. My hounds have been shedding their under coat of hair this last month and there's lots of hair to sweep up and clean out of the boxes. We used to feed cracklins & a egg to get them to shed and slick up their coats for the summer, giving them a good worming helps too.
Go to the summer blend of feed with less protein & fat, cut back on the feed to keep the lean cut look, fat hounds can't help but heat up when they're ran.
Running around water is the best places to run that way the hounds can drink and cool down as needed.
The dry and heat has really gotten the ticks coming out now.

I have been using it for a little over a month now. I have seen a difference in my hounds; hope you have the same results!!!!

I always carry a couple gallon water with me and try to run from before daylight up till about 8 or 9am.
I have seen mine hit the mud holes and cool down , then get back up and take the rabbit on.
I also don't feed high protein and fat.

i know in our country i run just before daylight till nine or ten if its not to hot.if it gets over 78 degrees first thing in the morning, i go back to bed. they'll run a rabbit and then there ready to go home. just not worth going that far for one bunny. once i start running for the summer you can always tell when there building up tolerance to the heat because that nine or ten turns into eleven or twelve and it starts getting dicey at that time. it also matters how there running. if there hammering at five in the morning i'm usually going in by eight or nine. if there just looking for the most part it takes alittle longer. it's like judging a cast if your not sure just watch the dogs they'll always tell off on there selves. im not much of a road hunter if they go in the woods and stay i'm going in after them just so i can keep a eye on them. always run where they can get water. biggest deal in my mind.
