Been camping at the beagle club the last 5 days. June 3 & 4 was Grand Lake Beagle club's MAB license trial, and we were graced with several board member's participating. Mark and his Jenny dog not only took top honors in the 15" female class on Thursday, but Jenny finished as well making her FC status. Not bad considering the heat, humidity, and the crazy scenting conditions of our club. Congrats Mark. It was certainly nice meeting you in person.
I entered my 13.25" Belle dog in the 15" class as well. She didn't make it out of the 1st series, but she sure made them judges run hard. Which always puts a smile on my face. MAB judges most generally don't like to run in this neck of the woods. She lead her trio mates by 20 lengths taking the first right angle check flawlessly before all 3 dogs ran into the next check and broke down. The other 2 dogs finally managed to take it another 10-15 yards into the bottom and lost it for good. Belle's problem was when she didn't honor that last 10-15, but instead looked for the track in the opposite direction. My bad for not having her run up in trial condition.
Then my old friend billy showed up for the 13" male class on Friday with his Skipper. Unfortunately Skipper's story is much like mine. Too much foot and a little too rough for the judges, and as soon as he made the 1st mistake they made billy handle him. Of course the other two dogs never got the rabbit going again.
There was another board member there who doesnt post much and perfers just to read and watch the videos, but unfortunately I cant remeber his user name. So you know who you are. lol, post on here for us.
Here's some pics hope you enjoy, and thanks for supporting our trial guys.

two questions

1. What is "MAB" ?

2. What style of hounds is it?

MAB = Mid American Brace - Gundog brace that is. Not walkie talkie brace.

Depending on the club and the judges they choose the dogs could be medium slow to medium in speed. However I have been to some where the judges prefered a faster rougher dog. For our trial we get judges that favor medium speed with line control. That's why my barn burner never does very well at our trial. lol, I'm just donating to the club.

Our trial was on Thurs. & Fri. prior to another nearby club (Prairie Creek Beagle Club) who held their's on Sat. & Sun. It worked out great. We had 152 hounds run in those 2 days. I suspect Prairie Creek fared as well because we attended the bitch class on Saturday and they had over 70 dogs that day.
