Northern Lower Peninsula MI hare hunt!

Post by Dillinger09 »

Me and Jwagners spent the day in northern part of Michigans lower peninsula and once again came up successful! The morning running wasn't grade A but they brought this particular hare to the gun just in time for lunch! After lunch we moved around the swamp and got on a few more, where I would miss a bunny that the dogs really deserved. After missing these dogs would run these hare in to the night! Even had my dillinger dog split off and run his own rabbit till we caught him at night fall! All in all was a good trip can't wait to run these white bunnies again

yeah, we have been pretty successful this year in the lower peninsula. Running hare from drop, until after dark. someone forgot to tell them medium speed cottontail breed dogs they weren't suppose to run hare so good. Because the faster dogs struggled this trip. the best part about the pack we are running is that when they open you know its a rabbit. when you call them they come. they will run as hard and as long as you want them to. I had the week off, so by the time we went up there half those hounds had around 30 hrs on them we put 8 more on them, up on hare. then the next day, put a couple more hours running cottontails. they are not perfect but these little hounds give you all they got, every trip out. that is all that matters to me. i'm looking forward to starting pups out of some of these dogs in the spring. one litter in the spring may be grade. But I have ran with a lot of males in the last three years and have yet to see one out jump ricks Dillinger dog. Bella has a bigger nose then maybe even here daddy and there hasn't been a day in the last 10 years her daddy couldn't circle a rabbit for me. He's definitely ran in some nasty weather over the last decade. I just hope they compliment each other and keep us in good dogs for a lot more years. O and the old man is getting bred to dot again. I'm going to have some pups to mess with this spring, I'm pretty excited!! To see if these crosses can make us some rabbit dogs. the one cross did it once, hopefully it works again!!

The Chester pup is growing good too. He's a week younger than the Ghost liter. ...........
The bluetick female is showing good. Ton of nerve for a 7 month old . Has ran with the big dogs and yet to get throwed. Nice mouth oh her too. Showing everything I like for her age.Hunts good and shows good foot. A little small right now , about 131/2" but I'm hoping she'll finish around 141/2". Taking her out this morning with a neighbors 7 month old male and my 71/2 year old female.
