how else could you score it? if a dog A barks 3 times off the lead and 1 min. later dog B strikes a track 125 yds. away, dog A packs up with dog B and within the 2 min left in the judges opinion produces the rabbit you have to give positive strike points to dog A. i don't agree with it but what are you going to do. i think the rule that is not used much and should be is minus 10 for pulling dogs out of the check area.

I personally don't think there sould be a rule or over running in LP. These are faster hounds, and the format is designed for that. Remember the foudation of LP is that a dog is being judge on it's "OWN" individual accomplishments, and not on how well it packs or runs with the pack, or even disrupts the pack. There are formats designed to get rid of hounds for over running, skirting, or disrupting the pack, but it's not LP...
Also, the check are is just a little common sense... How could you define it....50 yds, 75 yds... It's a point of loss, and as a judge I don;t usually have a problem finding my check area... It a dog hits 75 yrs out... HE BETTER GO WITH IT, because if he pulls even 1 dog, and then comes back... I give the minus 10....
You also have to be careful with the leaving the track on the strike rule.... Mike Kleiber will over rule a judge if even 1 hound barks away from the track and pulls the dogs... I have had the discussion with him many times... Example.. dog A strikes off the lead.. barks around for 1 minute and another hound dog B jumps a rabbit 200 yds out... He SAYS you can not minus hound A for leaving the track and going with hound B. Hound B pulled him there....You can minus a dog only if hound A is barking and on the clock, quits the track, and completely leaves the area with no other dogs barking..

Hey Paul, good post.I don't even know why I am responding because I don't trial much at all.I see Klaibers point but I know where he overruled a friend of mine and the original dog that struck had completely abandoned the area where it had beenn struck. My friend and I had talked about this very thing and this was the first time he minused a dog for it.I doubt he will ever do it again. For what is worth, there should be no minus's for overrunning but a dog should be minused for things already in the rulebook. The last 3 times I judged I had a dog minus out and some upset handlers.

The strike situation happened in a cast I judged this weekend. Hound A opened with three barks a minute went by and it appeered hound A had no chance of producing. Hounds B an C start barking about 60 yards and hound A pulls to them. They then ran the rabbit and hound A got the strike points. I didn't like it but I also heard the same thing as Blue Tick. It ended up making the difference in the hunt. Hound A was going to minus out if not for the help it recieved and would have also lost on points instead of winning. It still bothers me because the better dog did not win but I had to judge by the rules.

I copy and pasted what Paul said, me and Paul can disagree cause we are friends, and I dont think me and him disagreeing is going to change nothin.
I just think when you are judging dogs and you see the rabbit turn that they are running and 1 dog or the whole pack miss the turn by 50 feet or more they would need minused for racing and not running the rabbit.
I see what he is saying about scoring each dog on its accomplishments but over running isnt a accomplishment, in my opinion only. I think it deserves a demerit. Like I said this is only my opinion.
