AKC Small Pack Option: field trial format that divides the class(total entries) into packs of no more than 7 dogs per cast in each series except the winners pack (final cast) which can have no more than 9 dogs.
Example: 40 entries-first series would be 4 packs of 7 and 2 packs of 6; if the judges brought back 21 dogs to second series there would be 3 packs of 7. a third series can be used if needed.
Two AKC licensed judges hired by the host club must judge the entire class and are given total authority as to which hounds are eliminated or advance to the next series. The winners pack must be measured and shot over with a blank pistol to test for gunshyness. This can be done in a prior series if the judges decide.
The Mid-West Association uses this format. All hounds must be AKC registered and hounds are ran in four different divisions (classes): 13" females, 15" females, 13" males, 15" males.
