No offense Bunny Runner but these are dogs and do not have the same rights as children in my kennel. I wouldn't trade or bargain with ANY animal over something that is mine that they don't have MY PERMISSION to have. I don't hurt my dogs but I WILL NOT TOLERATE biting or growling or any aggressive behavior PERIOD!!!!!!!Instead, try "trading" offer something she wants more to give up the "prize" she thinks she has won. You should also be practicing taking things away from her BEFORE she runs off with something. Give her praise and treats for "give it".
Hunter I 100% agree with you!! Each dog is different. Some only take a loud firm "NO" and that is enough but others you have to show. What works for one may not work for another but I will say this.... I had a situation a few years back when one of the dogs got caught in someone's leg hold trap. She about eat George up as he was trying to get her loose. A case like THAT is one thing but a dog that bites you for taking something from her is another thing. She would get ONE bite if she were mine and she would sure wish she hadn't done that. If she bites again she will be destroyed! I will NEVER allow a biter to live in my kennel and I won't pass her off on someone else! If she will bite ME over that, imagine what she would do to a small child that tries to take a toy back! Enough said! Too many good ones out there to have to take a chance like that.
ALL humans even babies are Alfa's to dogs. One of the "average" pet owners biggest problems is giving these animals a higher status than their own children. The dog bites the kid and the kid gets punished for "teasing" the dog. Keep the kid AWAY from the dog if the kid is aggravating him but don't let the dog get away with biting!!!!! Didn't mean to get side tracked but I just don't "get" reasoning with a dog.

Redbud trees make good switches and you need to learn how to use one.
Heck with holding a dog by the muzzle!!!!!!!!!!!
There is two things I don't tolerate in my kennels
Fighting
Biting
I can fix the fighting 99% of the time
I can fix the biting 100% of the time. It may end in a dead dog but it'll be fixed.
This dog in the post don't deserve that but I would wear her butt out with something. She'd learn who the boss was and quick.

"No stronger bond exist than that between a man and his dog."

dog bitting
I just attended an AKC judges seminar, and one of the things that we learned is if a dog bites someone or another dog, that dog will be banned from AKC events for life. If you plan on field trailing this hound, this could be a problem.
