thought i added this yesterday i may have pm someone. I think if they change anything they should make it a rule that every cast starting with the first one shall have no less then two judges. i hate for a judge to come out and say i no i missed a few checks but i couldnt see everything. even with two judges they will miss some of the race but 90% of the race being scored is better then 40-50%.

Chuck, Can you give a link to them stats? I cant find em.Chuck Terry wrote:Mike Crabtree: I know nothing of the LP certification proposal. In PP you can try more than once - just costs you $10 each try. The stats on how many made it the first time (40% I THINK) are posted on the NKC/ARHA board.
Thanks,
Randy

GUYS I'M NOT WORRIED ABOUT CIRCLING THE RABBIT OR BEING SHOT OVER. MY DOGS ARE ALREADY SHOT OVER DURING GUN SEASON AND AT AKC MW TRIALS. BUT THERE ARE A LOT OF QUESTIONS STILL TO BE ANSWERED, HOW, WHEN AND WHERE? SETTING ASIDE WHAT I SAID ABOUT STATE REPS, THERE ARE 2 ACTIVE IN KY AND 1 INACTIVE REP THAT I KNOW OF. THAT MEANS YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE TO GO TO THEM.
ANOTHER REASON I AM AGAINST IT IS BECAUSE IT IS JUST SOMETHING ELSE TO HAVE TO DO TO CHAMPION MY DOG. GAS AT $3 A GALLON AND EVERYTHING ELSE GOING UP, MANY ARE NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO AFFORD IT.
BOTTOM LINE IS IF IT DOES GO THRU, I'LL HAVE TO LIVE WITH IT. SIMPLE!
JUST LIKE THE ELECTION IN 2004, WHO'LL GOT THERE WAY?

Randy: I thought it was on Woodine's "Leader of the Pack" post but it was in a newsletter from the certification committee along with that same list. Here is what it says: "59% of the hounds that passed certification were for PP Champion. 9% of the hounds that passed certification were for Grand Champion. 33% of the hounds that attempted certification failed." There is another stat given under the list: "432 hours spent certifying".
All right I'm going to put my two cents in. All my dogs are hunting dogs before they are trial dogs. The problem with cert. is.
1. The way things are going in this country, people are losing there jobs, or taking a pay cuts so they can keep there job.
2. Gas is $3.00 a galon,
For me to go to a trail pay for my gas, pay for reg, food, and drink. I'm well over a $100.00 dollars. I don't go to many trails, because of the expense.
If I have to pay $10.00 for cert. and we don't get a rabbit or we jump nothing but small rabbits, and the hour is up, you guys want me to spend over $100.00 dollars again. I guess I won't have to many Champion dogs, because I'm not a wealthy man.
Its like this, I have a choice go to trails or pay my bills. I have a boss in my house, that goes by the name of MRS., and I have to answer to her. It looks like to me, that the little guy is going to be push out, and the big money is going to win.

Hey guys. I just wish UKC had the guts to even talk about major changes such as these. I do vote for certifying when I start to compete in LP.
As far as my opinion on running off game, if you can get your dog back into the game within 10 minutes, my hat's off to you. It has taken me as much as 10 days, never 10 minutes or less on deer, fox, 'yotes, etc. Birds or squirrles wouldn't be a problem if you were gunnin' for rabbits. Fustrating yes but not devestating the day's hunt. Face it, how many guys do you know can get their dogs back and into the trail within 10 minutes. 99.99% of them will eliminate themselves because of the 10 minute rule. JMO

Legend has it ARHA PP was spun off from ARHA LP by a group of guys who were tired of wild dogs. Myself, I have attended PP and LP in the past and I never seen much of a difference......with or without these changes.Collins Country wrote:NOT TO RUFFLE ANY FEATHERS, BUT AFTER READING THE ARHA PROGRESSIVE PACK RULES, IT LOOKS LIKE SOME ARE TRYING TO TURN LITTLE PACK INTO PROGRESSIVE PACK.
GOTO ARHA WEBSITE AND LOOK AT THE PP RULES. I WAS SURPRIZED BY THE SIMILARITIES IN THE PROPOSED RULES CHANGES.
I remember being told many of times by the "big shots" in PP "that dog is a LP dog" or "that dog shouldnt have won, it's a LP dog and you brought it back the winner" or "that dog is crazy as hell, it should be in LP"........honestly, I dont think them guys had ever been to a LP hunt or they wouldnt have said that crap.
Throw out the way PP Champions are certified, the off game rule, and the number of dogs in a cast, and that LP dont pick you up and they are about the same......drive the rabbit hard and clean and your dog can win in both. I have always said a real dog will prove its a Champion in all formats and registries, RULES DONT RUN RABBITS, DOGS DO

My opinion again......I still think you all should test the dogs before "giving" them a title. I have seen too many LP Champions that are junk and that takes away from everyone of you who have a true Champion. I dont mean to disrespect anyone and I know that probably 95%+ could certify....but you all know the saying about 1 bad apple.
Take care,
Randy
