I think highly of PP and UKC PP Champions but I wouldnt say all of them for there is human intervention, and where that exists we know dishonesty can as well. I have never seen or heard of a PP Champion that couldnt run a rabbit or was gun shy, but I would never buy a dog just because it was a PP Champion without seeing it run.billi wrote:Just curious Randy i take it that you think all PP dogs that champion are true Champions?? No junk? Would be interested in your opinion.
No junk?.....I cant go that far, I know better than that. There is always the chance that guys go to certify in starting pens, or in little 2 acre weed patches by Wal-Marts/K-Marts or have there buddy's who are certification judges certify the dog for them. But I can say I have seen dogs that COULD NOT certify and they didnt become Champions in PP, where they would have been automatic in LP, it's just another safeguard.
Just my opinion which isnt worth much.
Take care,
Randy
Thanks Randy, i dont however think you can rule all gunshy dogs out. For example i have ran with a dog several times a that the previous owner claims a couple years ago a kid accitently shot but did not kill this dog. He is bred out the a** plus he can run with the best i would guess. But he will head to the truck if you shoot..Fellow using him for a puppy starter and he has some real nice pups out of him. Sorry got off topic..

COPY
1. They want to have shorter checks and they want the score read after each rabbit.
2. A dog that starts the check should get the points not the dog that cuts him.
3. To get a champion certificate a dog must hunt, circle a rabbit and a gun fired over him in a one hour time period. Certifiation commitee will be made up of state representatives.
4. A dog has to be standing with his legs straight to be measured and can not exceed 15.5 in. Every dog has to be measured in the final cast.
5. A dog that runs off game will be given 10 minutes to be handled if the handler has the dog back in 10 minutes dog is not scratched.
6. No penalty for first offense off game runers but lose 10 HOF points on the second.
7. If a dog minuses out in the final cast he gets last in the cast and places in the hunt.
8. A dog can get a first and champion at the end of the year. Dog does not have to move up in class.
9 10 11
Another few propsals are 13" and 15" cast divisions, allowing casts to be run in enclosures, and disqualification for not hunting for 10 consecutive minutes in a cast.
I copied these from the first few pages.

rules
A Few rules changes will be good for arha. If you want the title to mean something then you have to do something to make it credible. I have seen way too many dogs in arha that were champions or grands that just flat out needed a bullet. This takes away from the title of Champion in arha LP. I see nothing wrong with certifying a dog and anyone that thinks they have a true champion should be glad to put it on display. It is not about making arha LP into PP, but about making arha LP better in my opinion.

Well, i haven't been on here for a while, and Ive heard about this post.. Very interesting reading material. As for the rule changes, jmo... Ive thought the certification process is a great idea. If a RABBIT dog, cant circle a RABBIT, and have a gun shot over him, what kind of RABBIT dog is it.. just a food recycler to me.. As for the rest of the rules, i agree with most on here that NKC needs to be left alone. Deer race is a deer race, get them out of the cast. 15 inches or less..no questions.. and about the 10 second checks.. i mean come on.. anybody who judges, and is judging a pound the ground race knows its hard to catch up in 15 seconds to get some checks..
all thats gonna do is cause the dogs getting the 10 second checks to miss out on alot of points.. i like the thought... but its just gonna be harder on the judges. This is just my thoughts...

All the clubs I run and Judge at use 2 judges. Come to the Mountains and see if you want 10 second checks. Most people who want 10 second checks dont Judge. I would like 10 second checks if I could stay on the dogs well enuff, but it will just mean more missed checks.

GUYS NONE OF THAT MATTERS. WHEN YOU THINK OF THE HUMAN FACTOR, WE AS HUMANS ARE NOT PERFECT AND WILL NEVER GET EVERYTHING. ALL WE CAN DO IS THE BEST WE CAN AND TRY TO BRING BACK THE BEST DOG FOR THAT HR, NO MATTER WHAT RULES GET CHANGED OR STAY THE SAME.
BESIDES, A GOOD DOG DOESN'T KNOW WHAT FORMAT OR RULES IT IS RUNNING UNDER, THEY ONLY KNOW THEY ARE RUNNING A RABBIT.

I judge and I am for 10 second checks. No every check will not get scored but Im sure every 15 second check dont get scored all the time as well. I think a dog that gets a check in 10 seconds should definetly be awarded points. If a dog gets a check in 10 seconds its doing a better job than a dog that gets a check in 15 seconds in my opinion so it should be awarded. And I judge in the Mountains and from now on if I judge I will judge alone. A buddy is good but when you are judging and you see a dog get 3 checks and another dog not even get a check in front of you and your buddy runs down over the hill and says I can get it now and comes back with 6 checks on the other dog and the dog you see get 3 checks before not even have a check. Do I think it happened? Hell No.
