Terrain plays a large role in how many rabbits get caught. When my dog catches the most is when he has been preassuring them for awhile and they are running out of ways to hide in the thicket that they are in and they make a break for another thicket.
Through the year he catches more than I shoot.
If I don't start performing better he may not take me with him anymore.

Myself and the guys I run with here run hounds primarily out of HOF Spicers Blueback, Gregs dog Bogus and my hound Dutch who has 2 World titles in Big Pack.
They are fast hounds that do not sacrifice brains and hunt for speed. There are infused with Little pack World Champion Jasper and I am working on a cross with Dutch and some old Branko Blood.
They satisfy me, but they are single minded and intent on finding rabbits, so good yard training and firm obedience training is necessary for good handling. Like I said they are not for everyone. They are not going to hunt around your feet, they are going to go find a rabbit.

Hatteras Bob-- I think there is much beneath the surface on this thread and I was just teasing a hare to pull it forward!!
Duke-- I hope you did not read my post as saying line control makes for fast hounds, indeed i was hinting at the opposite. I was setting up relative terms that you often hear and I put them in order of my biased view regarding speed. 1.) line control=slow to med. 2. easy flowing chase, (short checks)= med-med fast and 3. wild exciting hair on back of your neck screamin chases = Fast! You decide. All in fun-- thats the name of the game!

My post on cholesterol was in fun. And in that light, What is a Multi Flora Rose??????? In Ohio its just 6 inch grass, and gentle rolling hills.

Think of the biggest and badest green briar patch or any other briars you know and multiply it 10 fold. It is the only thing cows won't eat, just too tough and thornie. It grows as a bush all the way to the ground. It take a special dog to crash the brush when it's multifloria rose. The rabbits tippytoe around in it until they come eyeball to eyeball with a hound and then they bolt. The dogs just can't put pressure on a rabbit in them, unless the rabbit screws up, badly. I had a hunting buddy take me to a new place that had a 5 acre solid patch of multifloria rose. There was no way my dogs could bust the rabbit out of there, we went somewhere else.

We hunt alot of briar and wild rose choked clear cuts up here. The dogs kind of look like they have a bad case of road rash or a can of red paint throwed on them after a good run but they seem to enjoy it. The only time the rabbit takes a chance on getting caught is if he tries to run across one of the open fields for different cover instead of a hole

I've spent some time at Ft. Meade, so I'm familiar with the terrain your way. Just kiddin about the rose bushes, I ve had to sew Dutch's ear back together after a good run through em.
My kiddin how ever poor is always just to keep things light. Any dog that dives in the briars is allright in my book!!!!!
