Turbo

Post by Lone Pine Beagles »

This is a good topic.

I believe that Turbo was a hound out of the "Branko" bloodline.

Looking at his pedigree. His 4 grand parents were most likely whelped at Branko's place. They all had Branko mothers!

A dog doesn't have to be 100% of any bloodline to be considered part of it. Study the bitchline.

BUT, looking back...... How many times do we see Anna's Ann??

Line breeding works when used right,

Thank you Lone Pine for actually looking at the bloodline.
Anna's ann is in it at least twice top and bottom, her being the mother of close call girl and branko's dutch wiefke. She was a real producing bitch in her day.
If you really look ther are several branko half brothers and sisters in turbo's bloodline. Branko's jack of all trades half brother to elm's jiggs maggie mate, and camp creek gertrude. Pretty freckles, and peggy sue are half sisters, close call girl and dutch wiefke half sisters. This is how you create bloodlines.
I don't know for sure but I would say that McBride's fly-on-snowflake is branko bred. Terry McBride handled both jack and prop for branko.

Snowflake does not have a single Branko dog in his pedigree,, He was line bred Mt Zion Pete.. which is actually what most of your well known bloodlines go back to. If you could follow a majority of the well known lines back you will find alot of Mt Zion Pete.. Whether it's Branko, Spur, or what have you, it all goes back to Pete.....

IFC Mt. Zion Pete was Dingus Macrae's great grandfather. His grandfather was IFC Lar-May Toastmaster and father was FC Lar-May Huntsmaster. Bottom side was IFC Cunningham's Annie as his dam which goes back 4 more generations to the Fish Creek line.
I agree with the post above. Every great line started somewhere. It is what kennels do if they want name recognition after aquiring a few great ones, i.e. line breeding, outcrossing to strengthen the line or even inbreeding on that rare occasion if two perfect dogs are matched (* inbreeding is not for the backyard novice). If incorporated correctly and the time is dedicated - a great line may be developed.
I think Branko is the master of that and has dedicated his entire life to beagles. My hat goes off to the man.
The owner of Turbo is the only one who could claim a legitimate "new" line and use Turbo and his foundation stud but he will have to do a whole lot of breeding as I described above to have a well respected beagle line that will stand the test of time. Frank Reese did this with his Gay line of beagles and so have many others.

Thanks buckshot I wasn't real sure about snowflake. I was guessing there might have been some in there since he handled branko's hounds.
You and jonny are right about everyone of the hounds you mentioned. I know back in the 70's all of us gundog guys wanted some of that blood in our kennels, out of any of those that you mentioned. Those hounds showed up in an awful lot of hounds in the early mid west asso. days.

Turbo breeding

Post by uplander44 »

I think where the confusion lies is that nobody has mentioned yet that Turbo was bred by Don Hoog of Germantown Ohio.He crossed Elk Creeks Blue Babe one of his dogs With IFC. Brankos Heli Prop. Also remember that before Turbo ,Don Hoog also owned a legendary IFC named Mark V's Ace In The Hole. Now lets say that Don keeps this up and then champion after champion he puts his name-first or last before the dogs name then he would have done what Branko has done.Branko never really had a notorious champion dog until the cross of his own Annas Ann and FC. Dingus McCrae.I think if you look back in most of Brankos champions you will see that cross of Annas Ann and Dingus and also Brankos Jack Of All Trades is in many of his champions to.So I dont think you can call a dog a line based on one dog that is bred in them but rather the person doing the breeding.I have a pup out TK's RoundMountain Jake the ARHA NorthAmerican LPR-CH who is double bred Turbo on the top and Ace In The Hole on the bottom but he was bred because Trent Wood AKA Swing and Tony Kildow decided to make that cross. Uplander,
I think what many of us here are saying is a line of beagles takes multiple breedings over an extended period of time in the fashion previously mentioned. Danny posed the question is Turbo a dog or a line. If he is a line it would be Branko. Elk's Creek has Branko in it.
Take care,
Ed

No confusion here uplander, (except on snowflake) I mentioned don a few posts back and said that I didn't want to take anything away from him, and that the 3 hounds you mentioned was his foundation stock,(ace, blue babe, and turbo) He has been a hugh asset to our sport and the beagle world. He has taken these 3 hounds and is createing what is to be a great bloodline. It is a work in progress. I've known don for 20 + years and told him that he should put "talk about" on every hound that leaves his place. We will all "talk about" Don Hoog and what he has done to improve the breed for years to come. I appreciate everything he has done because I remember when he first started how green he was. He asked lots of questions and made some really good moves. One being buying Ace from me.LOL! Right Don?

Turbo breeding

Post by uplander44 »

I gotcha now guys,I understand what you are saying now.I think continuing to improve on what we have is always important I dont trial much but hope to start more. The foundation of my breeding is all Ace In The Hole with him being the sire or grandsire of all my hounds accept the Turbo bred Pup I mentioned before but he is also a grand pup out of Ace.When my Ruby Ann bitch who is directly out of Ace and a bitch named Jack And Jills Babe who is out of Brankos Jack Of All Trades comes into heat again I am going to take her to Lee Alexander to get her bred to Sundown Mark V's King who is also directly out of Ace,I know several who have pups out of him and he like Turbo seems to be a good producer. One other reason that I am doing this is because any dog out there now out of Ace is atleast 8 yrs. old or more and it wont be long and we will be dealing with only grand pups out of Ace.If Ruby maintains her good health after that breeding then I would like to go back to the Turbo breeding and breed her to Kevin Munroe's KY Reggie who seems to be producing good pups. Turbo a dog or a line

Post by briarshakersdaddy »

Go Back 8 or ten or more generations. You will find all your beagles go back to the English inports. Does that still make every thing [ENGLISH BEAGLES]. Turbo was a dog from branko blood lines breed by Don Hogg which happened to be a field trial dog and a reproducer. Don put all the time and work into him. Everone else is trying to line breed turbo dogs to set them as a line. Still just like all lines some good, some great, some fair, and of course some culls. Just life as a beagler. Don is the man who made the cross turbo was his. Just got that nick we all look for. Time will tell if Turbo was a dog or a line. when in 5 or 6 years people start bashing turbo because they have a dog with him in 5th or 6th generation that turns out no good and try to blame it on turbo. then you see Success breeds jealousy. If I get a dog either off branko or out of turbo and breed it to plug females and produce nothing worth having is that branko's or hogg's fault. NO WAY Wake up stop trying to blame your mistakes on the name breeders. They twist yourarm and make you make a breeding. No when they leave the breed they and all there off spring is your glory or your mistake.

Where oh where has my little dog gone?

Looks like a hole was formed and The name of another great producer behind Turbo many times was swallowed up :?: I think it is where all this Jack,Prop,Turbo producing power came from.

The Turbo line is currently forming.

Matt, I haven't found a Turbo male that has the butterfly either. By the time you know they are a producer they are dead.Did you breed to Shadow?
