i'm back to looking for a dog food again looks like i'll got to black gold again been hard to find a dealer why don't we rank our experience with dog foods there some down south we don't see and vice versa here is my experience1 being sh-t 5 excellent .diamond performance 2 ,diamond 24/20 dog sh-t in a bag, lightning not feedable, prism 27/18 3, purina chow1,ultra advantage26/18 2 ultra advantage 24/20 3,piazz 26/18 2, black gold 4,

The best that Ive ever used and use to this day is Purina Pro Plan. I feed adult, but if I was getting to run 4+ times a week id feed the Performance. Just unbelievable the difference a food makes.

Bullboy, I feed Eagle Pack Holistic Select Lamb and Rice I have fed about every brand available and this is the best I have used it is also the most expensive but you get what you pay for. I will add that purina as popular as it is ranks at the very bottom of my list it is just terrible.

well ive tried alot of dog foods and im going to have to stick with purina dog chow. My dogs do really good on it and they pick it above most other feeds ive feed. evern mixed it once with some blackgold and they picked out the dog chow and left the black gold. guess dogs are like people all diffrent but my dogs and my buddys dogs that i work with all do very good on dog chow.

I've tried Pro Plan, Prism, Black Gold, Eagle Pack, and Pride. Pride Chicken and Rice, has been the best. I use the Lime Green bag 21/17. Very little mess, and the dogs Still look great after some hard running. I use to use the 26/18, I liked it, but the Chicken and Rice has been great.

I have read many of these dog food threads and haven't heard of many of the feeds mentioned in many of the threads. Where do you guys buy your feed? Must have to go to feed stores because I have looked at TSC, Walmart, and some grocery stores and I see the typical feed - IAMS, Purina, Pedigree, Old Roy, etc. TSC does have a few odd brands like Retriever. I seen a 50# bag of ??? the other day at Kroger for $9.99.
I currently use Pedigree and found it better than Purina. The dogs stool was more solid and less of it.

The food may cost more initially, but performance, health, fewer trips to the vet, and better digestability (feed less), make is more cost effective.

Higher guality foods are better utilized (more bioavailable), so you feed less. They also have quality ingredients which don't seem to cause the same health issues (ie: kidney failure, diabetes, heart failure, etc), and thus, fewer trips to the vet or shorter life span. There have also been studies as to the quality of the diet and reproduction success. Dogs that are receiving the correct balance of nutrients and nutritent quality, produce better, healthier litters. Some dog food manufacturers (Eagle Pack for one) are producing foods that meet or exceed the standards for breeders.

Wanna know how to locate some better brands. Most of these sites have store locators, so you can look up dealers in your area.

All dogs are different. While some will do fine on lower grade foods, others need a higher level of nutrition. Some foods will work for your dog and some won't. It's a trial and error thing.
I will say that while you feel that your dog is doing fine on your current feed (and I'm speaking of brands that use alot of by-products, multiple grain fractions, and meat and bone meal, etc), you would probably be surprised how good they would do on a better quality food.

i will agree with you bunny runner in alot of ways but ive seen and have owned alot of old beagles that have eaten either purina or ol roy all there lives. i had a 16yr old female that was raised pretty much on olroy and table scrapes my grandpa gave me and she was ran up until the day she died. i know of others that have feed purina and have had many older beagles live ripe old ages. ive yet to have any health problems from it ive tried other brands over the past 10yrs or so but i keep going back to it. its not about the money either my dogs like it and i feed just as much as if i was feeding any other.

I fed Purina Pro Plan for years and now I'm hooked on Sportmix 24/20 and will never pay 29.00 for another bag of dog food.

I have fed Diamond high energy and after the problems I had while feeding it would not throw it in the pond for fish food. I also have fed purina hi pro and the dogs did fine on it. But I am now feeding Buckeye and am very pleased with it. The dogs do just as well as they did on purina but the price is better.

I have been feeding HiStandard 26/18 since September.....I wont go back to anythingelse right now....great stuff!!!!

pro plan performance is very expensive but well worth the money,what i do is feed pro plan to the dogs i am trialing and i feed hi pro to my brood bitches and young dogs,and puppy chow for the lil ones.

We have been feeding Hi Standard for about 5 years and have good results. Our dogs also get alot of beef.
