I catch rabbits to put in my lot with apples. Just place the traps in a thick covered area. It might take a few days but dont get dishearted because you can catch them with apples.

Try apple - do not let it start to rot or you will get possums if there are any about. If you ever catch a possum, it will be difficult to get a rabbit to go in the trap for a while. It might be a good idea to dip you trap in boiling water that contains a pack of black cloth dye and and a little parafin wax if it is possibly contaminated with human, chemical, or animal scent. Alternative methods include: washing with chlorox then rinsing thoroughly, leaving the trap in a running stream for several days, or smoking it with a pinestraw fire. If you are serious about trapping, always wear rubber gloves and boots. Good cover-scent/attractants to use in the trap area would include terpentine, rabbit urine or manure, apple juice, and vanilla extract. When I was a kid I used to help my uncle with his traps on the farm. His favorite bait was raw sweet potato. In the winter it helps to cover the Havahart with straw but in the summer, I would leave it open. Adult rabbits are VERY hard to catch in warm weather where food is plentiful - be patient and you should catch some young ones. I tried the pyramid trap an entire summer with NO SUCCESS. I guess I am the only person who has never caught one in a pyramid! Good luck!
