Good point about being legal or not, I'll have to check on that.
Most of the places I run they don't hole up too quick, but there are a few places that the rabbits are run by predators and dogs a lot and they hole quick. I think my dogs would have a hay day on a ferret!

I turned 45 years old in September of 2006. Steadily threw out the last 20 year’s of my life I’ve become much more conservation minded, respectful of nature/God’s Creation, and more sporting pertaining to hunting & fishing. I think the faster this type of “mined set” happens in ones life the better off we all are.
For the above reasons I do not believe in pursuing an animal “into a den or hole”. I feel it is a “safe haven” once they reach it. I just say, “that’s one more we can run another day”. This whole world is becoming MUCH too greedy! “Lets us Sportsman not follow in their ways”.
God be with us all!!!

So you guys are telling me that if you hunted some spots and the rabbits always ran to the hole, you could care less? Gimme a break!

I can not speak for keystone but what i am saying if the rabbit gets to a hole or someother den or what ever and my dogs cannot get the track going again game over rabbit wins and i would move on to find another. To me it is not killing a truck load of rabbits although i do know a few guys that are in it for the kill and i will not bash that in anyway. But to me if i kill that rabbit i will never be able to chase him again. But i am from southern in. and our races sometimes last along time. we dont have a lot of holes. so if faced with this problem i cant honestly say what i would do.but if he gets to his home he is safe.

I have a female beagle that likes to go in the hole after the rabbit .In a way it is nice like someone else said she runs the rabbit out and the race is on again . But a couple of weeks ago she got out of hearing down in a hole and she ended up spending the night out in the woods because i could not find her. Been thinking about buying a tracker system because of this problem.
You'd have to have awful small terriers to get in after a rabbit (roughly half the size of the rabbit to get in the same hole) and then depending on how deep the holes or setts are..........you'll have to dig the dog out. Terrier work is nothing to be taken lightly and is a whole branch of hunting with dogs all its own.
It's not that life is short......it's just that we're dead for such a long, long time...
