could u imagine saying no to 35,000 for a hound or offering that amount of money.

There are a few things money can't buy, a true jump dog is one of them. If you sell your jump dog you might as well sell your gun too, cause your done or dead!

We own 6 dogs, and none of them will ever leave this place, they will stay here until they die. One of them is a true jump dog. Jump dogs are few and far between.

now bob dont go that far lol.i did sell the only jump dog i ever owned last yr and i killed some this this actually more than last but i juts chose to kill less rather hear them run. she was a grade dog .sold for 450 . i wanted everything patch in my kennnel and sio it is now and i dont have to wait long to get a race goin but none of themm r jumop dogs .. u could turn her out on the bad days when others seemed coulnt find a rabbit and she would find one and not be long abiout it.!

Preacher, I had one 25 years ago. She also was a grade dog, but her grandparents were AKC. The dam just was never registered. We would drop 15-20 dogs at one time. My 7, my fathers 5, the breeders 5 and often another friends 10 and hunt. At the end of the day we might jump 40 and my little bitch would have jumped 20 of them. She always accounted for 50% of the jumped rabbits day in and day out. When she left a patch of briars, Mr bunny wasn't home.

I now have 2 - 18 month old littermate gyps displaying similiar traits. I've got my fingers crossed. One opened while I was carring her out of the starting pen and went nuts. I held on and kept walking and jumped a rabbit about 15 feet furthur. I'm seen her freeze and point a rabbits prior to jumping it. Her sister (11") first time in the wild was following me fairly closely. I asked her to find a bunny. She lifted her head then moved forward 10 feet, lifted her head again and moved right 5 feet, then returned to me. I thought something was going to happen so I turn on my video camera. She moved left a little and started to work into the multifloria rose. I folowed with the camera. She disappeared into the rose bush. I watched, as she stopped and remained. I kept filming, she backed out of the multifloria rose bush with a rabbit in her mouth and brought it to me. It may have been a cripple, I don't know, but I got it on tape.

A friend of mine had the best i have ever seen yes i said had. She would fine a rabbit then when others would hark in she would go find another. Deffinitely not good. She was shot accidently as the pack was driving a rabbit she jumped out of the weeds in front of the rabbit just as someone was about to shoot. We have some of her offspring but it seems the daughters or good but the grandkids not near as good as grandmaw was. She would pack but often she would go back to find her on. I dont think i will ever see another find rabbits like she could. She would go in briars that would make you quiver just to think anything would go in. Yes these dogs once in a lifetime...I have a daughter and a grandaughter good but couldnt hold a candle to grandma. The thing about the breeding was nothing anyone would reconize.

I have some dogs that can jump rabbits but I do not consider them to be real jump dogs. A jump dog is like a magician that seems to be able to pull a rabbit out of nowhere. A buddy of mine had a dog named Buster. Best I ever saw. Could go into strange new territory and find one in a hurry. Could find one other dogs passed by. Magical.

Big Al, where you from? Got a buddy w/ a dog named Buster that's a true jumpdog also. Def. a once in a lifetime hound.

I owned a jump dog, he was extremely intense hunter, with great nose....he would head into the brush and almost immediately have a jump. He ended up getting too loose with his mouth and I let him go to a hunter....I wish I wouldnt have.

His mother is real good hunter with very good nose, but he would get most of the jumps. I never thought of it in terms of jump vs hunt, but because I had one of each, I understand the difference.

Bird, that's all I hunt cause that's where the rabbits are. If you got multifloria rose you got rabbits. I jump 20-50 rabbits a day in that stuff.

Nothing prettier than watching my bitch crawl on her belly through multiflora rose. That is what jump dogs do. My male won't go in there unless the rabbit is up and then he will bust in it with authority. He is a track dog where she is a jump dog.

I always thought i had some jump dogs until recently when i talked a fellow into selling me a female i wanted.She proved me wrong real quick.It just amazes me to watch her work.She zigs and zags in front of me looking for the thicket stuff she can find and will stop to catch wind of any scent in the brush.If she smells a rabbit she will point then bust in the thicket.This is something i never imagined i would see a dog do.Now all of my other dogs are considered to have good hunt but she takes it to the extreme.Definitely consider her to be a jump dog.Even when the rest of the pack is tired she is still busting the thicket.If i ever find another dog like her i will be LUCKY!
