e collar

Post by mo. beagler »

I think I might get an e collar. When I run my dog where there is no rabbits right now(like at my place) he will jump a squirel and chase it or dig up a mole. never see it when we go out to our hunting places but I dont see the difference. It is a pricey little item.and I am fixen to add a couple of pups with him this summer.does everyone use one. do people hold on to them or are they sold used regularly. I have never hit my dog. I have had him since a pup. 16 months. he did get a little roughhoused today when he chased a squirel.what is a good range a mile?
are they rated for flat ground. do they work up a hill and down the other holler? thanks for the time..

Yes, people sell them used frequently because they start out with what they have, and then need to expand because they buy more dogs.

Some people swear by the 1 mile range. I look at it like this, if I can't the dog then I have no business shocking them. My collars that I have use a 1/2 mile range and I have never seen the need for more.

The terrain does affect the range. You aren't going to get a mile range in heavy timber or in the hills.

I have Innotek and I haven't had any troubles with it. Others swear by Tri-Tronics and others by Dogtra. Buy the best collar that you can afford and if you think that you will be getting more dogs in the future, then either buy an expandable unit or buy one with more collars than you need right now.

Can't go wrong by having a e-collar. I had innotek and wasn't all that happy with it. I think tritronics is your best bet.

1 mi. is prob. all you'd need, but it never hurts to get the 2 mile trashbreaker. Chip Eisienhut is the man you'll want to get in touch w/ if you're buying new. Yes, it's rated for flat ground w/ no obstacles (houses, trees, hills, etc.) in the way. So a 1 mi. collar may only get you 1/2 mile in heavy terrain.

i would get atleast a 1 mile range. u can break that down by atleast half. some times even more. by your self one that u can add collars to later if u wanted. but be super care full. i still find my self getting mad and using the collar for a long distance slap. there is a proper way to use it, and i still strugle. i may need angry managment.

I hate to admit this but I will. I know a lot of people that have felt them on low to see if they were working, it is just a tingle....BUT, about 10 years ago my wife and I was at a friends house who had just gotten a new Tri-Tronics for his bird dogs. Well we all got a little loopy that nite and my wife and buddy started trading shocks with that collar, lol......I didnt play but I watched them fools. They were only suppose to use the low settings, but you know how drunks and rules mix.......she ended up hitting my buddy on high and he said it hurt, he flopped around like a fish out of water  It was entertaining though

I've hit myself on 2 and once on 3 and 3 wasn't comfortable at all. I've gotten a couple of my buddies on 6 (tri-tronics) and they both sh*t (figuratively)
