MY ADDRESS BOOK HAS A VIRUS

If any of you gets the following message, this is a hoax, folks.

"Here is how to check for the virus (jdbgmgr.exe) and how to get rid
of it. PLEASE DO THIS IMMEDIATELY!!!!! Remember, if
you find it, DO NOT OPEN IT!!!

1. Go to START, then click your "FIND" OR "SEARCH"
option.

2. In the FOLDER OPTION, type the jdbgmgr.exe

3. Be sure to search your C DRIVE and all the
sub-folders and any other drives you may have.

4. Click "FIND NOW"

5. The virus has a TEDDY BEAR ICON with the name
jdbgmgr.exe DO NOT OPEN IT!

6. Go to EDIT(on the menu bar) and choose "SELECT
ALL" to highlight the file without opening it.

7. Now go to File(on the menu bar) and select
DELETE. It will then go to the recycle bin. If you
find the virus, you must contact all the people in
your Address Book so that they may eradicate the virus
from their own Address Books."

From time to time I get these messages about so-called virus, and the message is reeeeal helpful - right down to the instructions of how to get into your system and delete it. What they are doing is scaring you into deleting some obsecure program that's normally on your computer. In this case, they are having you delete a small program normally used by JavaScript writers. Most of us don't write JavaScript, so we wouldn't miss it if we deleted it.

A big tip off that you're getting a hoax virus notice is when they claim that it got past Norton and Mcafee. There's very little that gets past either of these two. Before you go deleting anything from your hard drive, or if you get any virus warnings, go to McAfee and check out their published list of virus hoaxes. You'll be surprised at the ones you've seen come thru over and over again.

NEVER EVER open an attachment in an email (especially if it's from someone you don't know) without running it through a virus scanner of some sort.

There are a lot of "Freeware" virus scanners that do a pretty good job...the one I like is...

It scans hard drives and email. It is very "customizable" to how intrusive you want it to be. It preforms automatic, weekly, updates so as to on top of the latest that's out there.

Before you delete any file you are warned about in an email, type the file name or virus name into a search engine like google.com and if it is legit you will get information on it, if it is a hoax you will find that out too. I know as I always check all of them and have caught myself before I deleted about 10 necessary files. There are also those who sit around and send these emails knowing that they are making the rest of us delete things we need on our computers and laughing about it as we do. You can never be too trusting always check on ALL virus information, or you will ruin your own computer in the process. Instead of creating viruses now, the fools are creating hysteria and we are playing right into their hands..........

It's a hoax as I got one this week with that bear in it and got a scare. The amount of darn sex enhancer meds spam these days is unbelieveable!!!!
We probably get 100 a day here. Between the emails and the pop ups it's sickeningand time consuming to get rid of the bullshit.
If you ever have a virus, it makes you jumpy from then on!
