World Hunt Bench Show

I went to the World Hunt last week and my female won best female on the bench show.

I have never bench showed dogs before this year.
Conformation of the dog is important to me, but never spent time "stacking them" to practice for a bench show.
Last December a woman at a hunt in Ironton, OH said "Wow, you have a nice female. You should put her on the bench."

I put her in the bench show at 4 hunts. She got best female in 2 of them.
At the world I wasn't going to bench her, but my friend was benching two of his dogs. I thought, "Well, I have to stay here for the bench show with him I might as well put her on".

The judges were the most thorough I have seen. They made you walk the dog the length of the building as one judge watched it coming and the other watched it going. The inspected each dog once on the bench.

He walked over and grabbed the trophies, took a hard look at me and walked over and placed 2nd place in front of another dog. He then walked over and put first in front of me. I am sure my jaw dropped, because I was probably the guy there who had the least amount of confidence that his dog would win.

The pictures aren't great. A better one should be in the magazine this month.

I had to go back for best of show and was a little nervous.
I think she sensed this, and wouldn't stand still.
She kept looking at me and leaning againt my hand.
Dogs react to how you are, and she was a little nervous too.

My friend was giving me a hard time.

I had just come back from judging a round in the field.
That was the second cast I had judged that day.
I was tired, wet with swamp water up to my knees, shoes sloshing, sweaty, and had ticks on me when I went to the bench show.
I used my own personal hair brush to brush the dirt and loose hair off her on the tailgate in the dark before the show.

Most of the guys that walked the dogs across the floor took a slow walk and the dogs moped along. I started about 10 feet back, turned on the floor at a slight jog that put her into a perfect head up gate that made her look like she was gliding.

My buddy said, "The only reason you got that is because of that "westminster prance" you did across the floor".

Zuk That is unreal, Great going! Let me be the first to say congratulations!!!! I guess everydog does have his day. Way to go man. I'm guessing that girl is exceeding your expectations. Whats the breeding on your little female, She looks like a champion to me.

You should have stopped at ringside and asked one of the judges to check you for ticks! Gregg

I always say she is out of a bunch of "no name rabbit dogs".

I wanted a pup out of her litter because her Sire had more hunt than any beagle I had ever seen. He was rough, hunted wide, and cut/slashed pretty bad. I always figured if I could have had him as a pup that I could have made him into something better.

Her Dam was a smooth rabbit dog with good hunt and ran pretty clean. She was out of Ole Bad Cliff. From what I have heard, Ole Bad cliff threw some hard hitting dogs.

Her sire is Burfords Jumping Jack Flash and the Dam is Adams Turnaround Katie (AKC name is Adams Tug River Katie).

She has some Paycheck way back on the top side (doesn't show up on ARHA pedigree).

I am pleased with her performance in the field, having that good of conformation is a bonus.
Personally, I like a dog with a heavier frame and a little more height than what she has got. She does have exceptional speed for a dog just over 13".

I didn't realize that was you or I would have introduced myself. I remember your female well. A big congrats on her win. My wife took 2nd to the puppy that took BOS in the open class. Very nice female. I was trying to pick just by watching the dogs move and looking from the crowd. The open females that I told my wife would take 1st and 2nd did just that. Way to go

Congratuations, and you told your experience so well, I think we all felt we were there along with you. Just one of life's great surprises, and it sounds like it couldn't happen to a nicer fellow. You have a very nice looking hound.

Silverzuk , That is my pup that took best puppy and best of show. I thought best puppy was cool but I never thought my puppy had a chance for best of show. all in all it was a great time there.

Congrats on your Best of Show Run n Gun. You didn't happen to get any pictures when they had 1st and 2nd puppys up there did you? None of mine turned out.....lol.

From what I could see of the pup, I felt it was a good call.

Winning BOS with a pup says a lot.
I generally don't like to see puppies get best of show, but when you have one that good they have no choice but to give it to the pup.
