Looking to buy Shock Collar's.......Sport dog 400s two dog

Post by Joeyman »

What do you guy's think about these shock collar's..........I only want to use them to bring the dog's in at the end of the day. Sometime they can get alittle hard headed on me and don't want to come when I call. They don't run trash so All I really need the collar for is to bring em in. I was looking at the Sport Dog 400s two dog. 1/4 mile range-my dog's are sort of close hunter's.........What you guy's think or I'm always open to suggestion's. The Sport Dog is in my Price range.

I wouldnt consider anything but Tri-Tronics. Either the Classic Series or the Trashbreaker Series.

Everyone has an opinion but I think you're on the right track. I had all kinds of problems with TT and finaly bought a Sport Dog and have never regretted it even bought one for my son. Converted him. I had mine 8 months used it 5 or 6 days a week and it started to not hold a charge. I called Sport Dog about batteries and they told me they would send out a new unit send mine back. They sent the new unit and told me to ship mine back in that box. That's service Try that with some of the others.. Unless you have a dog that can stand a lot of abuse don't get the SD you don't need it the regular model will flip most beagles backward if you want..

does your have a tone........I believe the unit I am looking at has a tone. I would like to eventually get the dog's to come in on the tone button. I don't know how hard that is to do. But I sure am going to get it a try. What are some tip's when you want the dog's to come in. What do you do. Call them and if they don't come you nick them. Are they going to associate their name with the shock then be afraid every time they hear their name. I don't want to mess things up. My dog's do know their names. They just get to hunting and don't want to stop.

I have a friend that had a 400 he didn't even get 100 yards in open ground. I bought an 1800, sent that piece of junk back in less than a week. A supposed 3/4 mile unit, I wasn't able to get 400 yards in open ground. I have a Dogtra, it's gets 75% of the advertised range. I also have a Tritronics Sport Basic, it's a 1/2 mile collar, I get almost twice that. My advice to you is to go with a Tritronics. But if that is too much $$ put another $40 with the $260 you were going to spend on the Sportdog 400, and buy a Dogtra 202. The 202 is a 1/2 mile collar, and you'll probably get about 500 yards or so. Don't waste your money on the Sportdog. Just my $.02
