I know, you are seeing a lot of dogs "just a little over"
But you change the standard to 16 then you will be seeing dogs "just a little over that"

doesn't the engilsh standard say beagles can be upto 16" and isn't that the origon of all of todays present beagles. Im no trial person but i do like a bigger beagle and have breed a few that would push the 15" mark but where good beagles none the less. sent a 17" male to indiana awhile back that could run with the best of them.

if NKC/ARHA Big Pack is 16 in's i think it would only make since if arha is going to let once class be 16 they all should be because i dont think one class is better then the other..jmo

Leave well enough alone, if you allow a little over 15" now, then go to 16", people will be entering dogs a "little over" 16"...

What I want out of a cottontail rabbit dog is to circle the rabbit, not catch it.
Ideally, a hound will cirlce the rabbit smoothly and not so fast that it pressures it into a hole, or pushes it out of it's normal territory.

Height is essentially adding speed as a whole. My personal opinion is that there is plenty of speed out there when you are seeing casts (not just one) where the dogs catch one and two rabbits in an hour.

i think they should leave the 15" limit and all the rest of the rules the same. i guess you could say size matters.
let honesty run through the veins of each and every judge at each and every trial at each and
every format.

Generally speaking, big dogs are faster.

I have a question for all those that like "big dogs".
If a 13" can do exactly the same as a 15", why are you running big dogs?
Why are there very few 13" dogs on the cover of rabbit hunter?

Droopy Ears that won the World in the Grand Champion Class is 13".
But 13" dogs winning are the exception, not the rule.

That still leaves the question; "Why run a dog over 15" if a 13" dog do the exact same?"

The guys up north that run hare have already told me that they like a long legged hound for fording through snow and speed.
So there is one answer.
What are some others?

Bottom line is a 13" dog typically doesn't have the speed a 15" dog does.
