Good luck!!! I have had pups do something like this and it was a bacterial infection that the tests won't show. My vet puts my pups on amforol which has an antibiotic in it for intestinal bacteria and also something for the diarrhea. Works great for me.

ok well i just got back from the vet, all hounds were tested for Parvo, fecal test, heartworms, ect just to make sure i have covered all bases and the bottom line all tested Neg for all$$$$$$$ big bicks for 8 hounds but we did find a bacteria infection which he called Giardia and put all hounds just in case on 250mg Metronidazole twice a day for 7 days this should clear up the bacteria which he said could have been caught from either drinking from a muddy water, or eating something bad in the field.
Hopefully this will take care of the problems, he did say i took really good care of all hounds, they looked great, and really done my job on medicating them properly, which made me fill pretty good, but if you made made what he made off me today you would say something nice to. lol

PLATEAUBEAGLER wrote:oakhill i haven't checked her gums yet but i will take a stool sample tomorrow to the vet to make sure, it cost $8 for test and $14 for the Albon, i haven't noticed the blood until Tuesday from the either and i wash my pens daily, i have seen diarrhea though for awhile. i'm starting to get worried cause i just completed my 3 day deworming and heartworming also and 2 days after when i noticed it. i am begin to wonder if it isn't a dog food problem, i feed Big Red 24/20 i haven't seen it on recall on the dry dog food yet but you never know these days?????
What wormer had you given for 3 days?... Valbazen should have been knocking the Giardia down, maybe that's why she acted better today...?
Glad to hear their ok... :)
Beaglesunlimited website has good explanation of Giardia and treatment...

Congrats on a job well done!!!! I keep a supply of Amforol the stuff I was talking about for cases such as this. When the albon doesn't work this will do the trick. It's ingredience are kanamycin, bismuth, and attapulgite. Works great. Saves me lots of bucks.

Wow Donnie, I bet you did make the vet happy, heartworm check for all too? I think you may have gotten taken advantage of if your vet "knew" you were on a heartworm program, unless you ask for the test to be done anyway? I think a good vet would say, "lets take the sick one and find out what we're dealing with first, before we worry about all the others".
Again, glad their ok...

S.R. the 3day worming was Safe Guard w/fenbendazole, as for my vet yes he knew about the heartworm program i was on (ivomectin) he said the test wasn't necessary but i had 5 that has never been tested and i had them sense they was born so i suggested on testing them and might as well do the rest to be sure which only left 3 hounds so as a good measure to make sure what i was doing was fine i had him to test them to, so yes he was pretty happy when the bill was payed but i would have to say although the cost was high i was happy plus he knock 150.00 off after the bill was printed up and let me have the medication for 30.00 which was 65.00 to start with, so they treat me pretty good and they know all my hounds go to them if i have a problem so they will get me back sooner or later.lol
I went out this evening to give the second dose along with feeding and i don't know much but that pup chowed down she has found out how to eat again real quick, drinking good, and a totally different pup, no blood in any stool either in the pen and checked after they eat, and still none.

Thanks also Oakhill yeah i read up on it on Beagles unlimited and it's was very informative i learned alot about other things there to. good info for all beaglers.

Glad though to know all is doing good and pleasing that what you work so hard to do is working, Lord knows we all spend enough money on our hounds to keep them healthy, and when a Vet tells you that you take better care of your hounds than him thats impressing to me although it maybe alot of smoke if you know what i mean. lol

Thanks for all the help and i will keep you all posted on there progress over the next 7 days.

You would need the Fish-zole for a generic Metronidazole. Fish-mox is amoxicillin. Flagyl (metro) is a sulfa drug to treat bacterial and protozoal infections. Clears up diarrhea pretty quick.
