Need small truck with good gas mileage

Be careful with the buy american claim. "mostly made" in the usa is still made somewhere else. I'm a veteran and a government employee, I don't shop at wal-mart, and I avoid buying anything chinese, but I am a Toyota buyer. Toyota is smart enough to have their vehicles assembled here and they employ lots of americans. They could easily send all of their plants to Mexico as the US makers have done. At least some of my money for the toyota ends up in the hands of americans. When toyota came into nascar people were making the same unamerican claim, but when the newspapers printed what percentages of vehicles are actually made in america toyota came out on top.

Last year I looked into buying a toyota for the same reason, better on gas. What I found was the yotas weren't any better on gas than the 1500 chevy's and you weren't getting as much truck either.
The Chevy Silverado 1500 5.3 Z71 gets 17-22 miles per gallon. The toyotas were listed the same. I bought the chevy.

Buy American? Maybe the auto industry should earn it!
I'm tired of hearing the "Buy American" dogma! The Auto makers refuse to bring out a mid size diesel or simular p/u truck, even though the market is screaming foe it! They produce and send all the Ford Ranger diesels to Europe. I could use a Ranger 4x4 that gets close to 30mpg here in the US. Could you?Would you buy one? Bet you would!
But they will not produce one for us, why? Check out the Ford Forums, lots of Americans are asking the same questions. Need gas mileage, not excuses.

I got this link some time ago from a friend....
I think twice before I buy anything now simply because it is cheaper or is pretty... I look at who makes it and who I am supporting.
You support someone you also support thier cause and thier country ect.
True there is no such vehicle as MADE IN THE USA 100% but like I said I will but what is MOSTLY made in the us and from us parts when possible.
This goes for trucks... lawn mowers.. anything!

The problem with parking them is everyone says they want to do it but really they mean they want everyone else to do it. For now I am parking it except for work. I'm driving a Chevy Cavalier to work right now and get around 28mpg. Toyota site says 23 city and 28 highway on 4cyl. Tacoma.

There is also another side to this. With fuel prices as high as they are, and espiecially if people park them, it will have a direct impact on your local garage mechanic. Limited driving means less maintaince and repairs to perform, and less parts to buy. so these prices are impacting the economy in more ways than one.

Gas is $3.57 here in the U.P., but that's today, it went up from $3.44 in one day. Someone out there is getting very rich but it ain't the american working man/woman. It will cause the economy to crash, I attend only 3 or 4 field trials a year but have skipped 2 of those already and unless something gets fixed I probably won't attend the 2 this fall. Hare

High fuel effects us all. Meanwhile the rich are getting richer.

When the moment of truth arrives, the point of preparation has passed.

Your majesty, the people have no bread!Tim H wrote:Why don't you all just invest in oil and get rich with the rich who are getting richer? Then you would be happy the gas prices are going up instead of pouting and parking your vehicles. Stop waiting for someone to fix your problems for you.
Then, let them eat cake!
