Redbugs have been around for a long time tormenting people. Folks were outside more and had to do something about them years ago before all these chemicals were invented?
It was better to never get them on you than to get eaten up and then hunt for a relief as you were going to be right back out in them the next day.
What's that old saying about an ounce of something and a pound?
Cracker Barrel has the pickled garlic and its good.

The good Lord “blessed me” with a body chemistry, skin type, or He put something in my blood chiggers don’t like. Any of the places I run beagles, “friends I run with complain of chiggers”. But in those same places “I where short pants” the majority of the summer. Since the majority of beagles that I kennel hunt well, I don’t have to get into the cover to help jump rabbits for them. For this reason I rarely need pans to keep briars off my legs. This makes it “much more comfortable” to run dogs during the hotter months (May through August). From umpiring college baseball March through May, my legs need a little sun light.

* I enjoy meeting new Beaglers & Squirrel Dog Owners. It's a blessing to find other's with such unique interests.
* I also enjoy helping future hunters.

Chiggers definitely like some folks more than others. I really react where they burrow in and get more than my fair share. I used to fish a dark water pond surrounded by woods with a friend. I am thinking now that they may have been on the boat we used. It just stayed there at the pond - turned upside down on the ground. Anyhow, I would get chiggers and my friend would not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He took his girlfriend with him one trip and the chiggers covered her - even in prvate areas like Bev mentioned. John may be on to something with the banana vs. garlic deal. I know I can take brewers yeast for a couple of days before a camping trip and not have as much trouble as normal with chiggers or ticks. Still the best solution is using routinely REPEL! Works just as good as the gasoline and kerosene my grandad used to put on our pants legs when we picked blackberries back when I was a kid.

I've got one under my armpit and one behind my knee and I've tried everything you guys have posted and nothing is making them go away. I've had them in the past and the fingernail polish has worked but for some reason it's not working now. Maybe this evening I'll just have to get a knife and do some digging.....
The Crank's may not have it all together, but when we're together we have it all....
I know how you feel...........I still have some. I used clear finger nail polish. Put it on thick. Two night's in a row is all you should need. I know I know it's hard not to itch them but try not too. Most of mine disappeared but I still have a few that are itching me. And wash all the clothes you were wearing spray something in the boots you had on. Could be more in there waiting for you.

When you do get redbugs, its not a bite like a mosquito, its the bug entering and nesting in your skin. My wife and children were put in a deep long soaking bath in hot water with lots of oatmeal in it. Dry off by air, don't wipe with a towel. Stops the itching. Heck, that's enjoyable for everyone anyway.
I still like kerosene on them best if done right after the entrance to your skin. Keep a gallon on my truck at all times under the tool box. Good for other bites too. So is tobacco, they both draw our poison.
You can pull sideways all around on the surrounding skin until the bite turns white and the bright very small redbug will easily be seen.

i have come to the conclusion that all of us do not have chiggers.i have heard that there is an epidemic of poison ivy, oak, and sumac this year.people that has never had them has had it. ive never had poison ivy but i know that this isnt it, but im not sure what oak and sumac looks like or what it does. my litte red bite marks has whelped and swelled with a lil discoloring.some people has said that poison sumac is what i have. danny, we might have got into a patch of it some where in carlisle at the hunt. i havent talked to brad. i wonder if chad has had any problems..
