Chocalate PrimeTimes
I was wandering if anybody has gotten chocalate beagles out of Prime Time. I have a buddy who bred his Primetime male to one of his branko females and came out with two chocalates. I bred my female out of Prime Time to a dog out of Birchlake Chimmer and had 8 pups and one of them was a chocalate.Just courious if anyone else was having any chocalates.

I have a redish/brown - tan - white female out of Prime Time and a Blue Ninja bitch. She's the Cocoa hound on my site if you wish to view her. The dam of my hound is red/white female so hard to say where the red is coming in from. Jackpot's mother was red/white hound also. So guess she's got an influence of red on both sides.
Chimer threw a couple red/white hounds as well.

Thanks for the info. If anybody is interested in one of these chocalate pups my buddy has a male left he is asking 150.00 for him. He is out of a dog that is directly out of primetime and box's samantha. He also has the littermates to him for sale. Anyone interested can email me at travistaylor265@yahoo.com or call me 606 875 6206.
Liver, brown, chocolate its just a dilute of tri. Both parents must carry the Gene so, obviously the stud dog you are talking about does. When he is bred to a bitch that doesn't carry the gene for liver then no liver ;-) Its the same for blues. a dilute of the black.
I personally don't find them attractive due to the lighter eye color but, hey! if they hunt and you like em then thats all that matters!

The AKC beagle standard says a beagle can be any hound color. The lighter eye is caused by the dilute gene and the eye color should match the coat color. I have seen some beautiful chocolates. Color has nothing to do with conformation or ability. As a matter matter of fact, the UK didn't change their standard to add the Liver color as a fault till the 70's because some judge decided they didn't like the looks of the lighter eye which goes hand in hand with the chocolate dilute.
I guess what some find attractive, others find ugly. For example I personally find a lot of the hounds showing in the ring these days look like they have been stung by bees on the face. There is WAY too much flesh on the muzzle which for the function of what the hound was built to do is a no no. Let a saw briar get ahold of that muzzle and ya better get to a vet cause he is gonna bleed to death. Let me quote "free from flews". Just not attractive to me nor is it standard. They look like they are part Sharpe. But Hey, if they show and you like them, thats what matters!
UK beagle standard on color:
Colour
Any recognised hound colour other than liver. Tip of stern white."
The AKC standard on color:
Color
Any true hound color.

Don't squat with your spurs on!
It all boils down to personal preferrence. I like to look at my hounds and enjoy what I see. I'm sure its that way for most. I certainly meant no disrespect to anyone nor was I being sarcastic. I just personally don't care for liver. I'm not saying they are not worthy dogs and I realize ANY hound color is allowed in our standard. Funny thing is when I bred and showed cocker spaniels I was known for my "chocolate" cockers!! way back when nobody liked them. I won one of the first group placements on one as well. Thank goodness we don't all like the exact same thing or it sure would be boring ;-)

It's interesting to hear on how you get a chocalate cause had no clue on how they came out like that.As far as personal preferences go i never liked blueticks until recently when i purchased my first bluetick. She has since then became one of the best dog's in my pack if not hte best, and guess what i love blueticks now.All i'm saying is they are beautiful pups and if mine performs anything like its parent's then it will stay with me and i'm sure i'll learn to like them to.
