Silverzuk: I got a smile out of your post! About 23 years ago, when I was fresh out of college, I built 25' X 25' pen and kept 6 to 8 beagles at that time. I remember having to go out and spray with the garden hose for barking at night. Since they were all in the same pen and running around in the dark, they all got it most of the time! After a while, I began to notice that if a beagle barked, you would hear it holler once or twice then DEAD SILENCE! It puzzled me at first and then I realized one or more of the others were taking matters into their own hands!
Nice topic! I've finally come to the conclusion noisiness is genetic, and I agree, its usually the high strung ones that are the worst offenders. Two years ago I bred a somewhat barky bitch to a male who was very whiny & a troublesome barker. The pups out of that cross are CONSTANT whiners. The sire of this litter was Gay bred.gus wrote:IMO, booger barking is genetic. Some dogs are just nervous and bark at the slightest provocation
Two of my current girls are pretty quiet, ones Branko/Indian Hills, the other is show/field bred. Now, the WORST barkers have hands down been the true medium speed bloodlines. Gay has been our worst offender - not just barkers, but WHINERS

I live in a subdivision and I do not tolerate bad kennel manners at all. I don't want my neighbors to have any reason for complaining about my hounds , so I start hose pipe training at a very early age.
We have people over occasionaly that don't even realize we have a kennel in the back yard.I take alot of pride in that.
And my bloodlines go back to DiamondII Littleman and Cocoa bear.
They bark when someone or some strange dog comes in the back yard but I expect that.

She's good in her kennel run IF she has another hound with her - if not ...
Got the biggest mouth of them all ...

JUST AS JOHN SEES IT

i would go with the water hose/sprinkler line or tritronics
but really i think that alot of times it is the smater dog that can learn things like when to shut up and those t rex hounds have alot of brains and that is the reason that you like her in the kennel she just learned faster..

As you have the opportunity, do good to all men, especially those of the household of faith.
Larry G wrote:Steve, I don't know much about the lines you mentioned, but I know of an old male close to Blue Creek Bear and Hank's Jo Jo Blue that bred a double Tiny Bull bitch just before he died. I can get some of the pups. What do you think of that breeding?
To be honest, I don't know much about Tiny Bull. I've got 2 gyps that go back to Jo Jo Blue and like both a lot. I don't run Blue Creek Bear hounds anymore, I'm running faster dogs now, but I would guess those pups are going to be good hunters, have good noses (quite possibly cold ones though), and be med. speed.

I have a male Patch pup that is so quiet I honestly got worried that he couldn't bark at one point . After I had just sold his littermate brother
. I finally heard him cut loose about a week or so ago .
Don't think he's pulled a bark since . I can't help but think it's in the genetics sometimes .

Three of my hounds are Ninja bred and they're all real good in the kennel.IMO it has some to do with bloodlines and some to do with training.None of my hounds bark or jump up on me at feeding time. I won't stand for it. I give em each a few scratches beheind the ears after putting their feed down and sometimes a treat. But if they bark excessively in the kennel, they get the old upper lip pushed onto the teeth trick just enough to make em whine a little..lol..Then they get real quiet.. ®¿~ ... CHH
barkers
My Patch hounds are quiet. Almost too much when hunting even. When you hear em, get ready to shoot!! I dont allow nuisance barking in anyway, same goes for whining. Though when one of the girls are in heat Sage will whine till he loses his voice. I have neighbors that have 4 schnauzers that NEVER shut up!! I would like to shoot em half the time.
