Well everyone had some good comments and prefrences of what style of dogs they like. I guess it like when we were dating, everyone had different tastes, but we all sure had one thing in common. My next comment is for my friend Johnny Ringo, you been gonna come and run with me for awhile, so I'm going to use the quote of this young bigtime wrestler, John Sena, If you want some, come get some!! oh yea don't forget to bring your chair.

Thornie,

I most definitely want to come back down your way. First nice Saturday in the next several weeks lets get together. Fast Eddy, you been wanting to run so maybe you could join us.
I plan on doing quite a bit of hunting in Coshocton County this season too. I really liked the area off Tunnel Rd. Got a young male that I can't wait to gun over. I promise not to kill too many of them. Got to leave some to run. :D

Me quit. What gave you that idea? I know you haven't seen me at the hunts. I regroping, got some young blood I'm working on right now. Couple of pups out of the Muddpuddler and a Mark V & Bad Cliff female. When there ready I'll be back to the hunts, but not until there ready. I've got a couple females that I'm ready to bring out. Probably the Don McVay Memoril hunt. Been on vacation and now hunting 7 days again. Keep your eyes open.

Thornie,

When we run I want your opinion on the two dogs I bring and what format they would do best in - AKC, ARHA or UKC. I may do some trialing just for the fun of it. Not going to get to serious about it but it may be fun to meet some of the board members and log some runn'n time.

Where did I say all fast dogs are faulty ???? I am just giving one example of how any speed of dog could be faulty. If you need an anchor dog, your have hounds over running their noses, period. Pack any style of dogs you want, however you want.
I have seen very few hard driving hounds that don't on occasion over run their quarry. That's not a fault but more a style. These dogs are quick to get back on the rabbit. On tough scenting days the anchor will help them get their quicker. Less disruption is what we are after. Keep it going with limited quick checks.

Yes, but how far ? I have seen certain dogs over run by 30 yds or more, and keep giving mouth. I just havent seen that many dogs that can run a 8,9,10 speed on any given day and keep a good consistent chase going.

I am a rabbit hunter first and foremost, so I like a nice steady pack of hounds that run similar.

I had a smoking hound once , out of Don Mc Cutchens stock. Bessie would almost lap my medium speed hounds when I would pack them. She caught rabbits reguarly, but she wasnt any good for gun hunting as she pushed the rabbit to fast and hard it either went to ground or I could'nt shoot it. Bessie would also shut up when she was getting close to the rabbit so I wasnt sure where she was , next thing ya know a little brown blur would go by, and I would miss the shot.

JMHO , as far as jump dogs go. Too me it refers to a hound with extreme hunt. In bite dogs we call this " ball" drive; use it to train dogs for narc and accelerant detection. I think some people think they have great jumpdogs but in reality they have a smart hound who knows where the rabbits are likely sitting, as they hunt/run the same place numerous times.

TomMN; I agree with you 100%-- any hound that can run any small type of game on the ice, snow consistently is a good dog, and can get it done farther down south.

and yes, I am a poor shot with my 870 :D
