Dog Fighting

Post by green river »

We've been reading a lot about puppy mills and the response has been very interesting. Something has been in the news alot here lately about dog fighting. I was wondering what everyones take is on dog fighting. I'm sure there are several different opinions out there.

Nip it in the bud, dog fighting is absolutely not acceptable.

Not a good thing in my opinion. I don't like dogs bred to kill. Look at the idiots in the inner cities that own Pit Bulls for all the wrong reasons. I am surprised more children aren't mauled by these amatuer breeders and dog owners of these type breeds.

I agree. I hate dog fighting. It's vicious and just not acceptable.

It's immoral. Period. What can a dogfighter say to justify his actions? I'm entertaining people? There is a very small following. I'm making money? Gambling on life and death is unacceptable to me.

I'm not saying I'm for it nor am I saying I'm against it. But just for the sake of debating, arguing and dialogue, what's the difference between dog fighting and professional boxing or this new extreme fighting, or a martial arts competition. The participants get judged and a winner is decided on how well you beat your opponent right?

What about the violence that we humans impose on each other.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?

The answer to that is simple. The boxer. fighter etc. decides for him or herself. The dog doesn't have a choice. That doesn't sound very sporting to me and the way these dogs are treated, well it would be nice to see how their owners would respond to the same type treatment. JMO!

I don't see how it is any different than fighting chickens, is one animal more worthy of a fight than another. I personally would not fight dogs but I am not going to jump on someone else if that is the thing they love to do. A lot of these same people that march against it are the same ones that would take your beagle away from you if it came in beat up & bloody from a good hunt. I know a few ole boys that have some dogs bred for fighting & they get the best care in the world. Great balanced food rations, plenty of excersise & work outs, with good living quarters too. Now it is like everything else, a few bad apples will beat & abuse but I have seen people with hunting dogs do the same.
I enjoy chicken fighting about as well as anything there is, so I can't condemn someone that dog fights. I will however condemn anyone that does not take care of the animals they have, be it dogs, chickens or even livestock such as hogs or cattle. There is no excuse for that, if they can't feed & care for an animal right then they don't need one. I am a live & let live type person that does not like to get into other peoples lives. I figure long as they leave me & mine alone I don't have any business telling them what to do !

Just my thoughts,
Plowboy

im not for dog fighting...but chicken fighting i dont see anything wrong with because...game chickens was bred to fight and the only thing they know...same way with showing horses...they say u should never mess with a horse nor put it in a stable or fenced in area...pit bulls can be pets but in my veiw should never be trusted cause they can turn in a min. notice...so yes dog fighting should be banned...chicken fighting and showing horses...i say gov. just needs to keep their 2 sense out of it

The difference is that humans can choose if they want to fight. Dogs cannot.

Have your dogs ever caught a rabbit? Did the rabbit have a choice how did he feel when that dog was tearing into his flesh. Did you correct your dog and say no, we only chase them or did you smile, pat your dogs on the head and say "atta boy." Remember, I've read your past post about your fast running, rabbit catching dogs.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not an animal rights activist. I'm just trying to get you to look at the big picture.

Hunters, remember there are a lot of folks that think hunting is inhumane.

In my opinion the beagle catching the rabbit is different as there is a useful purpose to that hunt. Someone is hopefully going to eat the meat that rabbit provides. Dog fighting only provides entertainment for betting purposes. Has no usefulness and is cruel. At least the rabbit gets a bullet when he's done.

JMHO! Not judging anyone ;-)
