If you are not going to buy one of Branko's pups, why does it matter what they charge? I couln't care less if they charged 2,000.00 for their pups. I have bought 3 running dogs from them in the past. One was exactly what they said it was, it just turned out to be a little too rough for me. (and if you know what I run that should tell you how rough it was! LOL). One was a female that I couldn't raise pups from. ( Maybe just bad luck?) One was a male that had a lot of tools, but would run mute in a pack of 4 or 5 dogs or more. Needless to say that I am not satisfied over all. If I ever were to buy another dog from them, I would make the trip up and watch it go before I spent that kind of money. I was foolish, but live and learn. I will say they were courteous to me, but I was sending them money and that will sometimes make people a little nicer. None of us can take away from what they have accomplished. They have, in my opinion, done more that anyone to improve beagling.
Let me say also, that every dog in my kennel has a substantial amount of Branko's bloodline in them. I do like what they have to offer.
yeah i made a huge mistake no picking up cav for the price steve was going to sell him to me for. i here is doing great know... i also dont understand about the femal. lumber mat and double trouble are both out of her so she did raise pups. all i can say is that suxs for pete. good luck with thunder by the way.
For what it's worth I have 3 bitches from Branko, two of them are 1.5 yrs and one is only 6 months. The 1.5 yr olds have been great rabbit dogs and started pretty early at around 5 months. I don't trial and never have, there isn't any beaglers let alone trials where I am from. I had always been intrigued with beagles and rabbit hunting and when the time came to wet my feet, the only person selling hunting beagles in my neck of the woods was this Branko Krpan guy.
I phoned and talked to Frieda, explained that I am from the neighboring town and would like to purchase a couple pups to get into the sport with. That was over a year ago and the Krpans have still not stopped helping me whenver I need it, wether it's a running partner or advice on hounds, or just to talk to someone who appreciates hounds, they have always been there. Truly caring and thoughtful people who did not have to take the time to help, and could have been jaded by these types of posts and refused to get involved, but they didn't.
Say what you want about old and new blood, my two older bitches are "rabbit hounds" with hunt and desire to spare, and have been everything this beginner could have asked for, much like the breeders who produced them, what more is there?
One bitch is out of Tuffy, and except for being a little slower to mature , is a great hound full 15" with a huge bawl mouth and she stays glued to the line. Another is from Baba Cowboy 14.5" with hunt and grit that makes you love to watch her, she's my jump dog and a little more loose on the line, but her gambles sometimes are the only thing that keep a run going in the winter. The 6 month old I haven't started yet but I have no worries about what I'll find, she's out of Manny.
How many of you succesfully gunned over 8 month old pups, in -15C or colder with snow depths ranging from a few inches in November to 2 feet or so by January, and still bagged hare consistently? I love my Branko's regardless of what I read on here, I just wish those of you who don't know the family would have the decency to keep your opinions to yourselves.
go to there web site they have a hole page of stud hounds. warlock, ombre are both getting older. or call danny in ohio and ask him what he has.[/quote]
Bill, lets hear about the pups out of these studs. I hear very, very little about any of the pups coming from their kennel over the past two years. I hear and read more about pups coming from people who only have a few litters a year...
Great post there SAV. But, we are all entitled to our opinions, just as you have given yours. I thought that this board is all about an opinion because we all do our beagling a little different.
Again, I'm not stepping on anyones toe here but I feel we all should be able to express ourselves, be it good or bad.
It sounds as if you have made a really good friend and you should enjoy that friendship for life. Best of luck in your beagling.
BTW I have no desire to hunt in that kind of weather. The heat here is bad enough. LOL
Danny, just DROP IT. We all get the point! Did you get spanked by a branko dog or something? I'm not trying to insult you just saying enough is enough.

there was a time when good dogs were reasonably priced for a working man...if a hound didn't turn out, you culled it..! and by "turn out", I mean if it couldn't run a rabbit and and put meat on the table..( fox hides in the barn), it was HISTORY..!
Nowadays, guys are "campagining" hounds, they're breeding "super-litters", they're selling dogs out hounds that don't know a whole hell lot of putting rabbits in front of the gun, they just want to sell beagles..! Then, the buyer, they pay too much, and breed or sell their "marginal" pups for too much...water down the gene pool, and the cycle re-news...
Back 30-40 years ago, if you bought a grade beagle pup from a rabbit hunter....90% of the time that pup would make a good rabbit hound..! they only kept/bred the ones that were "proven" (in the field, under the gun),and didn't give a darn about pedigree or the sire/dame or how much they had in the hound.
I'm here to tell anyone, ALL that doesn't mean a hill of beans to me. I do this to raise good hounds, I have, and will, continue to produce the best hounds I can, and could care less about the money. I giveaway hounds from crosses that aren't proven.....(it's funny that several "beaglers" don't know what an un-proven cross is..!!) the crosses that are good ones......usually get given away, also...it's not about the money, it's producing a hound you can be proud of....!! John Green (Greensprings Kennel)...
hey john green i still breed my own grade dogs got one bred now 3 or 4 guys are wanting pups i dont have a problem getting rid of my pups n they dont got no papers but their RABBIT DAWGS n pleasure dogs that can bring it back to the gun n do it pretty darn quick jb
Ok folks,
I have deleted and cleaned up all im going to clean up on this thread! Everyone has thier own opinion but lets try to stick to the topic and quit acting like a bunch of 2 year olds!
Mr. Vansickle is now in time out and is not welcome to post on the board until he feels like he can act like a grown up. If anyone would like to join him feel free to keep it up and I will be glad to make the same thing happen to you.
I see a lot of folks advertise "Branko Bred" pups because they had bred dogs out of Branko's bloodline. A pup is not "Branko bred" unless Branko bred him. The pup may be out of Branko's bloodline but it is not Branko Bred.
