Ninja
I would have to say Blue Ninja in my book and for some of the following reasons.
1- Ninja was a son of Branko's Jack of all Trades [and you can hardly count all the outstanding reproducing and champion Jack sons] In my opinion you can't get too much "Jack".
2- As Mark Trudell mentioned Ninja died fairly young and was bred 48 times and produced 42 AKC FC's[ plus some ARHA R.CH.'s]almost one per litter.
3- Look at what some of the Ninja sons and daughters have now themselves produced. Blue Barry a 2x National Large Pack winner and he produced a daughter that Phil Reynolds owned that also was a National Large Pack winner.
4- Look at what Ninja's two littermate sisters Missy and Mimi accomplished in trial competition and what they also reproduced when bred.
5- Don't forget what Ninja's littermate or full brother and sisters have contributed. Such as Branko's Big Leroy Brown, Branko's Conna,Maravic's Big Ben and Maravic's Handy Man.
6- And don't forget that these outstanding hounds that we're talking about today like World Hunt winner and IFC. Greenwell's Reggie, FC Turbo Charged Thunder Blue, R.CH. Louise's Blue Man,etc. Yes they were sired by Turbo BUT don't forget or diminish the influence of their mother: Maravic's Blue Girl who is double Ninja bred top and Bottom!!!!
The influence of Ninja is still being seen and quite strongly. Look at Better Beagling's 2005 Hi-Hound,2005Purina Cup Winner#1 Futurity Hound,2005 New York Hare Assoc. High 13" male,2006 Trial of Champions 3'rd place---FC.Beavercreek's Blue Max. I hear the other littermates are quality too.Ninja top and bottom.
Of course this is just my humble opinion!!!!!!

Re: Ninja
Nice analogy. I didn't know Big Leroy Brown was a littermate to Ninja. BLB was my Branko bitch's grandsire on the bottom and Jack Of All Trades was the Great Grandsire on the top and bottom. So I guess, indirectly, I have some Ninja blood running in my Branko bitch.Shady Grove Beagles wrote:I would have to say Blue Ninja in my book and for some of the following reasons.

Your post kind of nailed it for me. I too like what Ninja blood offers. I have noticed the Ninja bred dogs run pretty clean and I have owned and watched some Turbo dogs and they are rabbit machines but are a little rougher than I like.
Just my opinion of course.

JACK
dont forget that jack has east coast trimmer and dingus up close ,this was the genius move that made the beagle rabbit dogs what they are today in myopinion . 2 of the best dogs of that era trimmer made champion 3 times over ,while dingus [the rabbit machine ] placed in every trial he was in .Ican look at pictures of jack of all trades and the resemblance to dingus is uncanny , with these 2 dogs genes flowing in many beagle dogs today i feel there is none better. ninja ,heliprop ,lumberjack ,big sam ,hard rock , the list goes on .The closer with this blood the better, just my feelings of course.fastone

I would breed to Maravic's Blue Ninja is a heart beat. Blue Ninja BITCHES produced amazingly...too many FC's to count that came out of NINJA BITCHES. Ninja males didn't produced as much as their half sisters did...though I have an FC in the kennel out of a Ninja male. Ninja produced something like 50 in less then 50 litters. His father produced 40 in 40.
As far as Turbo goes, I've seen some stuff out of him, and its just not what I look for. I did give one a second one time that ran like she was tied to it and then just gassed out. Turbo was bred far more times then Blue Ninja and probably didn't produce as many AKC FC's as Ninja. I know he is very popular in the ARHA. As Bev says Turbo was a very aggresive breeder, I know that when he was at Mel Faust's house he bred a bitch that wasn't even in season
Bev,
I know what you're saying about Harper (I ran against him way back). He was a heck of a producer for how little he was bred. But with that said you can't beat Ninja's producing record.
I'd like to throw Hog Hollow Harvey in the ring as well...he was a hound to beat here in New England for a few years.

I'd love to hear some of your memories and recollections of Hog Hollow Harvey. I love hearing recollections from those who have run behind the dogs - the judges!KanesIrish wrote:I'd like to throw Hog Hollow Harvey in the ring as well...he was a hound to beat here in New England for a few years.
eddywilliams, ITA (I totally agree) about Trimmer. He made IFC 3 times over. As far as I know that's never been done before or since.

We have quite a bit of Ninja blood in our kennel, and thought it was time to toss in a little Turbo along with some more Ninja! Check out this pedigree and tell me whatcha think. The pups are due on the 12th of September. We're pretty excited to see how this cross turns out!
I did make one mistake on the pedigree-Maravic's Blue Girl was not a FC. http://www.espomagazine.com/pedigrees/3355.htm

Bev,
Harvey was ran 2 and a half seasons here on the New England circuit. He had 11 wins and was a win short of finishing four times over. He died at a very young age either 5 or 6, and was only bred 5 or 6 times to produce 6 field champions and at least 3 others with wins. Check what's placing at the futurity and the nationals from New England...Harvey is in there. Terry Williams pups are all grand pups of Harvey and look what Sandy Babbit has done with Smoker. Not too mention FC Bunny Bustin Spike and his brother FC Rod's East Hill Smokin' Joe.
Personally I thought Harvey was a little rough, but he was always there. His pedigree is outstanding, out of Nr. FC Swanzey's Cross Hare (by IFC Armando's Little Conman) out of NLPC FC Hog Hollow Anna (out of IFC Ray's Ben, by Bruiser)
