Post by buckeyejim »

I am looking for any information and or advise on Kansas rabbit hunting in southeast Kansas.I knew a few people that used to go every year but have lost contact with them.I have never been out that way but am getting the itch.Does anyone know of any public hunting areas in that region that a couple guys could get into some good rabbit hunting?Any information would be greatly appreciated.Names of towns in that area where we could reserve a room for about 5 days cheap?Just looking for any info we can come up with. Please e mail me at - crosshaironu30@aol.com Thanks Jim Frazier

Swing likes to hunt that area, you should give him a PM or something.

There is public land(Mined Lands Wildlife Area)around Pittsburg, KS. I have never hunted it, so I can't give you any solid info about it. You can go to the state web site. It is Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks.

I have been out there a few times. The way to go is state park cabin rentals..(cheap and close to the hunting), you can reserve them on-line. The people are very friendly, and your best bet is to call the state wildlife biologist to see how the numbers are in the area that you plan to hunt. Toronto Lake, Redmond Resevoir, Elk City, are all good places to start...good luck...JG..

If it all possible, please leave the Mined Land Wildlife Area as is, we have a little pack club in SE Kansas and the rabbit population is not doing very well. We actually just withdrew from a big five hunt bid due to lack of game.

Thanks
