Breeding stanchion for dogs ?

Post by ohiohunter1 »

Was wondering if any one knows of any thing being made by any company to put under a dog and strapping them to the ``stanchion`` so that any problems that the female would cause while the male is doing his thing could be elimanated. Thus reducing the risk of injury to the male ?

What problems you ask? She is standing and flagging. When male mounts her and entered her and was doing the deed she gets very snappy with him and wants to roll and twist. It is her first breeding. Her mother was the same way. I dont want to have to wrap a lead strap around her mouth to keep the male from getting biten. It must not be as natural as you think when I took her mother to have her bred the stud owner had me handle her the same way on two different breedings

Try this link. I think it will help. You may have to cut down on the size to fit a beagle.

OhioHunter I can sooo relate...went through the same issues with three bitches so far this year! 3 out of 4 concieved...but one is a joyful lover so she doesn't count ;)
Anyway, If you have a helper you can tie the bitch short by her collar to a post. Muzzle her if she's snappy, get on each side of the bitch and lock your left hands together under her so she can't collapse, leaving both of your right hands free...one of you guiding the dog and possibly one supporting her vulva from underneath with your fingers spread like a V (or like Spocks hand LOL)....when the dog hopefully gets himself in push and hold him firmly from behind because she's probably gonna freak when the bulb swells.

Even if the bulb doesn't get or stay in if his penis is mostly in her and he's dancing away and you can hold them together for maybe five minutes if the timings right and the sperm and eggs are good, etc., the breeding should take.

If you don't have a helper tie her up next to a wall and use your knee to hold her up. Also, I keep a baggie and syringe next to me in case he overshoots the mark if you know what I mean ;)

GOOD LUCK!!!

We had this problem alot on coon hounds,We would just use a double snap and hook her head down low and in the corner of the kennel , this stopped almost all movement and there was no bitting(she can,t move)

Gee that sounds easy enough! Although these Beagles can be quite the gymnasts! Have you tried this method on Beagles?

I've had 1 hard breeder, had to be short coupled the the gate(strike one), she only ever gave me 3 pups to a litter(strike two), got a hernia during pregnancy and when her daughter showed the exact same faults(strike three).
I've got a little grade bitch out here now showing me what a brood bitch should be. Easy to breed, carried and free whelped 9 pups(lost one), she's not a big milker but her milk must be rich for all 8 are thriving. No pig rails, she noses them away from the wall as she carefully lays down. Has dragged a couple of them still attached to the teat out of the box, she just turns around and picks them up in her mouth and carries them back into the box and lays them in the pile of pups. Very attentive and the only thing I've had to do is sit feed into her pen and keep her water pail full. Their on a bare wood floor and it been up to 80 during the day and down to 48 deg at night and there's no heat on them outside, only a warm mama's belly to cuddle too. Dang if she was only patch blood...
Eva from Mich. has called me and said her bitch Chloe just whelped and the exact same thing happened, 9 pups, 8 alive, feed all divided into two seperate batches by herself and hasn't seen a better mother hound. These are what we need more of, don't put more on yourself than whats need to be... ;)
What day of standing heat is she in? maybe early yet... ;)

Cindy , I have not tried it on a beagle. All of my females are eager beavers when it comes to breeding  But I gave this advice to a friend after several missed attempts on a pure evil female he had and he said it worked great.

LOL LOL LOL

My issues have only been with maidens...I have one that is wild as a loon (we love her dearly but she's no rocket scientist) and as soon as my studs starting to enter her she whips around and just has to SEE  what the heck that thing is, and she goes NUTS trying to get it. It's hilarious BUT NOT.
Anyway, next time I'm not letting her goof off, but this year I already had 2 pregnant bitches and in retrospect I am soooo glad I didn't force that breeding and have 3 litters at once ;)

I understand what you are saying. In some ways I totally agree with you. We are all looking for the perfect dog but in reality that dog doesn`t exist. Just like there are no perfect people there are also no perfect dogs. It is a matter of deciding what flaws you can live with.

Sure, I could start with another female. But who is to say I would not have more problems with another dog. I am at a point where I beleive that I can breed some of my own dogs and get just as good as what the next guy has or is offering for sale to the public.

We all have to start somewhere. Breed a litter.Hunt ,select and keep what make the grade. Cull what don`t have the necessary tools to get the job done.

Someone suggested that it may be a bit early in her cycle. They may be correct. I tried again this morning. This time I snapped her to the kennel fence. She let the male mount her and this time only growled and looked back at him, I told her to stop and put my hand around her mouth and she just stood there the whole time. Maybe I got anxious.

As soon as he was inside her I put my hand on his butt. When he was done and wanted to get down from her back I just held him there and waited five minutes. I wasn`t taking any chance. I will breed her again and wait 63 days for the results.

Thank you for all your help !!!!!
