I,am looking for information on a line of beagles. Does anyone still have Roundpond beagles. What type of dogs were they, and what format did they run or were they hunting stock?.Also what would you cross on this line of beagles? Thanks

I just bought a pup from Anderson's Upland Beagles in New York that is heavy Round Pond breeding. I'm sure Mr. Anderson can elaborate on the style of the Round Pond breeding as he has owned and judged them. I never saw any of them run but only headed my dogs in the direction of what I have been told by folks that have seen, judged and hunted with them.

Mr. Anderson, that pup is a beauty, well put together and I love the coloring. I'd like to see a pic of the other one of yours.

I've known Tom Sharpe since I was a little kid. My father ran against Chips back in 1983, and Mr. T while he was being campaigned. I ran against NLPC FC Round Pond Scout with FC Kane's Irish Beach Bum in 1994, and marshalled the trial that he won to finish in 1996. I judged Tiger (finished under myself and Bob Sweet at Paskamansett in 2001) and NLPC IFC Melanson Ranger Dan the last three years of his trial career.

There is no better man to deal with in beagles then Tom Sharpe. He is one of the nicest men you will ever meet in hounds. I have never heard him utter one unkind remark about anybody, and thats a fact. Every time I run in to him I have a conservation with him, whether its about hounds, his son Ryan, who I used to hang around with at trials when we were kids, or whatever else is going on in the world. He is very personable and will answer, the best he can, any questions you might have about one of his hounds.

I have thought the Round Pond dogs of Tom's as this. Very clean on the line, no side hooking or overrunning (with maybe the exception being Scout). Excellent noses AND the ability to STAY AND MAKE A CHECK from the point of loss. Mr. T, like his grandfather IFC Birchaven Bruiser, HOF, was known for having an excellent snow nose. The only thing that I have seen from the Round Pond hounds, or what I should say, came out of them is their mouth, too much of in some hounds. I have yet to see one tight in the mouth, as somebody had mentioned before, and I have seen a lot of them out of many of Tom's different studs and hounds that are top and bottom T.

As far as crossing with other lines, I know Don Bramlett crossed Round Pond Blue Jet Sassie to Bramlett's Blackhawk. Rch Bramlett's Pearl was out of this cross as well as Libby, Sassie and Peebles I think. Pearl was tough, I loved handling her for Larry K. He crossed Pearl with Ty's Candyman and I have a female here out of them that will never leave.
