Chris,
You are right there is two side to every story. When I heard the shot I knew it was not one of my party so I went over to check it out the gentleman was on a frozen pond and told me he heard the dogs running and came over to this spot. I don't care that he shot a rabbit but did he know where any one in my party was or if there anymore hounds around that where not in the chase. If he would have came to one of us and said where he was going to be and asked a few questions it probably wouldn't have bothered me so much. If he needed the game that bad he could say something but just to shoot and tell me that he came over to join the hunt was a little irritating. I would have given him all the rabbit we shot if he needed the food that bad.

I understand what you are saying I was talking to all the people that are bad mouthing the gentlemen without knowing both sides of the story . I was pointing out that ethics run deeper than just hunting and I for one view ethics as how people act or react in everyday life .patsmichbeagler wrote:Chris,

My 8 year old son is my favorite hunting buddy and unsafe hunting practice is my worst fear so I do understand where you are coming from , just trying to get people to think of how a second side of the story could have changed their response to this post .

hunting public land can have its moments, but for someone to join in on someones else hunt is just being a low life, I would not put up with it and this person would find out real quick he is not welcome. As for as there are two sides to each story, we as hunters must examine clues to know whats going on around us, whether its checking trucks in parking areas , looking at the sign on the dirt to see if people are walking the roads and if they have hounds with them. for someone to pull up and dumps their hounds on top of yours usaully means they dont have much for hounds. Sounds like some of you fellows need to come south and learn the redneck justice system bring you own stick. he-he Are people really that brass up there

You are right And all I was trying to do was see if I was right feeling the way I was. That I felt it is wrong for someone to shoot a rabbit being run by somone elses dogs.Posted: Thu Dec 13, 2007 1:49 pm Post subject:

I RUN SOME STATE GROUND AND LAST YEAR I HAD SOME FELLAS FROM OUT OF TOWN COME IN AND START SHOOTING RABBITS OFF MY DOGS HE SHOT ONE AND I COUGHT THE DOGS UP AND ASKED HIM NOT TO SHOOT OVER MY DOG TO GET HIS OWN I WENT TO THE OTHER END OF THE GROUND AND THEY WENT TO POUNDING AGAIN IT WASENT TWENTY MIN AND I HEARD A SHOT WHEN I WENT IN THER HE THE SAME GUY WAS CLEANING A RABBIT I JUST LEFT BUT THAT IS SOMETHING THAT COMES WITH STATE LAND
I think the proper thing to do would be to just get your dogs and leave without saying anything ill mannered (a kind word wouldn't hurt) to the person or persons who were in the other "hunting party" They will probably get the hint .
Whenever words are exchanged peoples tempers start to flare , shotguns tend to go off and people start to die
. It's just not worth it

Here in Indiana it is illegal to hunt deer with the aid of a dog. The only way to use a dog here deer hunting is on a leash tracking but to answer your question when I say game I mean ALL game. When someone is hunting with their dogs they expect them to return the game to them or put an end to the chase by tree or hole. I see no difference in shooting a rabbit or deer off someone else's dogs then it would be to walk into a treed coon and shoot it out. I can remember when coon pelts brought $50.00 and folks were driving the gravel roads shining trees to plunk out coon. If you got no dog in the hunt then stay out of it. Go off to pursue your own but chances are without a dog you will not fair up as well so folks shoot game off others dogs.
